My transcript, as read by Judith LeBlanc, Co-Chair of UFPJ
Judith LeBlanc: We’re here to tell Congress to end the war. We’re here to say enough is enough, make real the mandate for peace. And we have some allies on Capital Hill. Some friends who have been fighting for quite awhile. Not enough. We need more. But we have some friends, a few, that we’ve invited to speak to you. One of them is Senator Russ Feingold, but he could not be with us, but he sent this message:
Thank you for gathering here to remind the Congress and the Administration that they need to listen to the American People. This administration took the country into war on a fraudulent basis; the President insisting we had no other options. Now, four years into war we are still in Iraq. As long as the President goes unchecked by The Congress, our troops will remain needlessly at risk. For the sake of our troops, for the sake of national security, Congress should use the power of the purse to end the funding for the war and safely redeploy our troops from Iraq.
Ah, where were all the other Senator's today, you know the ones running for Pres in 2008? The only 2008 who has announced that spoke was Kucinich. (Yeah, I know Rodham Clinton was off campaigning in Iowa, and DU is run amok with threads about Edwards house.) But, where were the Senators today? Not even Boxer could send a letter of support?
I posted a transcript of Maxine Waters speech here:
