Prominent Harvard Professor and black scholar, Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr. was arrested Thursday trying to get into his locked Massachusetts home. A woman alerted police that a man was trying to pry open the front door of a nearby house. According to The Associated Press, when police arrived they asked him to identify himself but Dr. Gates refused. He then called an officer a racist and said, “This is what happens to Black men in America.”
Police declined to comment Monday. He is the director of Harvard’s W.E.B. Dubois Institute for African and American Research and Editor-in-Chief of TheRoot.com, an online African American magazine.

Well, based on the post. Once more you have living proof that an advanced degree is no guarantee against common stupidity. Problem is, all too many people will accept Gate's stupidity as the model for their own actions. All the "gentleman" had to do was ID himself. That would have been then end of it. But---- all know that.

Posts: 4,434 Being black or a Prominent Harvard Professor doesn't have anything to do with his arrest. A neighbor alerted police to a person obviously trying to break into a house. They arrived, and HE failed to identify himself.
Kudos to the neighbor for calling. The police did their job as they should.
Sadly this professor is probably teaching racism. He should be teaching, what happens if you act ignorant 101.

My personal take on this incident. The cops in this country treat the citizens like they're enemy combatants. This is the result of the 40 year "war on drugs". The cops have become the enemy and it's goes farther than the black community.
