We have to stop playing the same game as the MSM

Candidates should be judged by the same standard, not a different one, based upon beliefs. Either it is OK for a candidate to be wealthy or it isn't. Either it is OK for a candidate's marriage to be less than ideal or it isn't. By saying, as many here have, that it is OK for anyone but Edwards to be rich since Edwards favors a populist economic program is just plain nuts. We used to call these people traitors to their class and celebrate them.

Does anyone seriously believe that Hillary Clinton, Barak Obama, John McCain, Rudy Guilliani, or anyone else running lives in a shack? No one making a serious run for the White House is going to be poor. Instead of revelling in tales about Edwards supposed hypocrisy we should be writing the press and telling them that if they are going to write about Edwards' house we expect to be soon regaled with tails of all the houses of all the candidates running for President. Similarly if we are going to hear endless prattle about the Clinton marriage then we should hear endless prattle about the Guilliani marriages, the McCain marriages, the Ginrich marriages, and the marriage of every other candidate.

5. I would be amazed if the cost isn't much closer

I don't know for sure but I know that houses in NY cost many times more than similar houses in even wealthy NC communities. I would think a house could be about 5 times as big here than there and cost the same.

CHAPPAQUA, New York (CNN) -- The moving vans are being unpacked, and on Thursday, President Bill Clinton heads back to Washington, leaving first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton to settle into their new home and prepare for her campaign for the New York Senate.

It is the start of a modern commuter marriage, with the first lady setting up a new home in a white $1.7 million house in a cul-de-sac in the wealthy hamlet north of New York City, while her husband remains at the White House. On Wednesday, the Clintons had their first meal at the new house, where they both plan to live after Clinton leaves office in January, 2001.

Their furniture and other goods arrived from Washington in two moving vans. "Like any new homeowners, they're excited," White House spokesman Joe Lockhart said after the couple arrived. Joining them was Mrs. Clinton's mother, Dorothy Rodham.

FDR was filthy rich, Kennedy, filthy rich, LBJ rich. Would you trade any of them for Nixon or Reagan both of which were much less wealthy? And as to Giuliani and MCCain, do you seriously think the media will cover their marriages? I am a pretty active political reader and I didn't even know McCain was a divorcee until he had lost South Carolina and had no idea the circumstances of his divorce until he dropped out of the race. I doubt I was alone in that.
