What is your worst night ever on DU?
I remember as a lurker the 2002 election night was bad. The start of the war in Iraq? The Medicare Drug Bill in the House was a long and disgusting night. The repuke bastards held the vote open for hours. Then there was a similar problem with CAFTA. The best night had to be the 2006 election night. I think I finally went to bed about 4:30 am.

2. Nov. 2004 was the worst.
The aftermath of the 2006 mid-terms were the best. I wasn't on a lot the day of the 2006 mids but the days that followed I was on a lot and it was so much fun!

38. the weekend before katrina was really bizarre
Edited on Sun Jan-28-07 03:53 AM by fishwax
and it was thanks to DU that I was more informed about it than anyone that I knew. It was certainly unreal, reading threads about how we just might lose a major american city. It was spooky, even long before landfall ...

As bad as election 2004 was, DU provided an outlet for those feelings. It was painful, yes, but rendered somewhat less painful by our collective pain and anger and commiseration. But waiting for Katrina was made all the worse by our collective helplessness. After the election, DU was a source of solace and comfort, however cold. But before Katrina, sensing what was coming, there was no comfort, cold or otherwise.

Oh, and the days and nights some spent savaging a certain Mr. W.R. Pitt of Bahstahn, MA was certainly a bad time for me. I developed a lot of contempt for some people and I don't do contempt well, in real life. The whole thing was quite venal and smacked of orchestration.

25. I've been going down to the VFW in Friday nights for their fish fry.
Off and on for 4 years, it's been fairly regular for the last 3-4 months. It's a relief to spend some time with people who don't need an 'explanation.' Last night, I was chatting with an ex-SeaBee who was in the northern delta around Vung Tau. We shared memories of how we both loved the natural beauty of Viet Nam ... and the beauty of the people. Even those who might have been VC by night. Like I say ... no 'explanation' needed.

There is nothing here that even remotely resembles a VFW Hall.

But there is a remarkable number of ex Special Forces vets in Belvedere-Tiburon.

So we go meet in a local bar and everybody eventually gets crazy.

I am the only one of us who has always faded to the Left. Everyone else was gung-ho USA.

Not any more.

If I typed in here what I have heard and what some of these guys are talking about, I would probably be arrested.

I have a few friends (and we are all SEAL, Beret and DELTA) who are actually waiting for this admin to be over and for their (my friends') wives to die so that they will not cause any real problems for their immediate families.

And I am not kidding.

If I was one of the assholes in the Admin, I would be sorely afraid.

And that is as far as I am going.

There are some serious folks out here who are seriously pissed off.

They were both loaded with files upon files of trash they had dug up and came here with both barrels loasded and hit him from all sides with their bullshit. I'll never forget it. One of the lies they posted ended up on CNN that night! CNN Had to have gotten the info from DU because it was something that had never been posted or reported before and it was posted HERE on the very day Kerry's spokesperson repeated it on CNN. I am so glad those 2 are gone.:( What a nightmare they were.

I'll never forget that day.

The best day? It's been pretty damn fine since we won back congress; In particular Nancy Pelosi being sworn in was a mighty spectacular day for me and also Today was too!The March in Washington/across the country feels historic to me.I felt really proud and uplifted today because of what I saw.

34. 2004 election
At least we have each other for times like those. That was a tough one.

The 2000 election was unbelievable, but that was before DU.

I was watching TV, ready to go to bed, ready to wake up to President-elect Gore. My son was working his first election at the radio station. He called me and told me not to go to bed. We talked on and off all night. I was stunned. I went to work the next day, too, with almost no sleep.

I was even more stunned by *'s arrogance when he addressed the press the next day. Those people have such a sense of entitlement.

Even I was speechless was the supremes installed that lunatic as resident.

Thanks for being here, fellow DUers. I have a great family of Democrats, and a great county Democratic central committee. But you guys get me over the rough spots.

37. 2002 midterm
Realistically you're not supposed to knock out an incumbent president whose party has been in power only one term. I had hopes for 2004 but we were always the underdog and DU didn't seem to acknowledge that.

But a midterm while out of power is a different story. We were the favorites to hold the senate that year. I certainly thought we would gain. Plus there were hopes of a huge net in governorships, in the area of +10.

The night started out decently enough, but once the Georgia results became obvious everything snowballed for hours. Taunting from freepers with the "senators belong to us" crap. Truly s stunning dismal night but at least it ended well in the early morning hours with Tim Johnson's comeback victory. I was one of a handful who stayed up and posted in that thread all night.
