Not syndicating Palin
Source: Politico

by Ben Smith

Broadcasting and Cable reports:

My own sources say much what they said when asked about a TV show for Palin: Don’t think so. While you might assume Palin would be a better fit for conservative radio than the less partisan world of syndicated broadcast TV, my sources say the country’s biggest radio conglomerate, Clear Channel, has already passed on her.

The main objection to Palin as radio talk-show host is that she would have to hold forth for three hours a day. While some of her recent remarks may indicate a talent for improvisation, anyone who’s listened to Rush Limbaugh or Thom Hartmann or Don Imus or Howard Stern or even Ryan Seacrest knows it’s the rare personality who can blab extemporaneously for 15 hours a week.

1. She lacks the ability to think on her feet
Callers would only make her appear slow witted.

And she's such a one note there is no way she could do even a single 3 hour stint without repeating herself a dozen times.

And that voice! Jeezus effing christ! Who could listen to it for fifteen minutes?

If she is gonna expose herself to the lower forty eight I would suggest a few beaver shots in Hustler.

9. Lower 48? Naw, she's coming to town near you.
Call me a fool in about 4 months if she hasn't announced plans to move to NY or CT. She's been dazzled by the bright lights of the big city. If she wasn't scheming a move to the NE, she wouldn't have resigned.

4. I wonder if her inability to compose a coherent sentence had anything to do with it
Rush Limbaugh is a gas bag, but at least he constructs complete sentences. Palin just let's words fly, apparently, at random.

6. Rush doesn't blab extemporaneously for 15 hrs a week.
First of all, I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't reading many of his rants - he does too good of a job at hitting the current RW memes and talking points. Secondly, at least a third of the show is taken up each day with ads.

8. What she'd have to do
I would think that now ex-Gov. Palin, if she wanted to do talk radio, would probably either have to team up with someone who either already has a show with a partner who's leaving (probably the best choice), or who is starting a new show (riskier). Her other option would be to fill in for someone who's on vacation. In either case, her best bet would be to line up several guests each day so she wouldn't have to carry the show alone. I could see her putting on Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin, Fred Thompson or his wife (though they already have their own show), or others of that ilk. If her potential guests were limited, her audience would quickly get bored with her, but that wouldn't necessarily be a problem if she were a sub for a day or two. It would be much more of a challenge if she had a regular gig. But I don't think there's too much room out there for any more radio talk-show hosts, at least on the conservative side.

Of course, with satellite radio and the Internet, she could probably do just about anything she wanted to, though I wouldn't see her getting enough of an audience to make any money or have any political influence.

11. Not to mention she has a voice like Sally Struthers.
I don't care how rabid and crazy a right winger you are, 15 hours a week of her would be enough to break anybody.

15. Whatever she does,
I'm sure we'll be hearing SOMETHING from her within the next couple of days. She's been too quiet since Sunday.
