I don't believe for a second that people like Boehner, O'Reilly, Hannity, Beck and Limbaugh really believe in this bullshit.
But, do you think their intellectually vulnerable and fearful followers believe it?

If I really and truly believed that someone was out to kill my grandmother, I would go nuts at town hall meetings and attempt to derail their plans by any means necessary.

This is what I am afraid of.
That these people aren't just posturing to make a bunch of noise, but that they actually believe that the lives of their loved ones hang in the balance.
It seems that people who believe this way will, at some point, resort to violence.

So, do you think its real or some good old false outrage?

And they're willing to kill themselves to do it.

3. I am outraged that you would suggest that the GOP would stoop to such shenanigans!
Why, I'm going to alert the mods to your post, write how upset I am in my blog and tell Rush!

Right after I recover from this sudden fainting spell.

Where's my couch?

Like that?

They are that stupid. Now the politicians like Dick Armey* know better.

5. I'm sure some do and some don't.
The ones that don't certainly have no problem using it to scare the stupid (er) among them into flipping out about it.

...and you're right, it could get scary quick, if the wrong moron at the wrong time decides to "take matters into his or her own hands".

7. Both.
I think some of the older people who are part of the "mob" really do believe his crap. They are easily scared, and the right wing takes advantage of that. Most of them are just people who have no clue what is going on, they listen to Rush, or one of the other idiot talking heads of the right, and they just do as their masters want them to do. The right uses brainwashing tactics to control those who can't think for themselves, who want to be party of something "big" and who just don't bother to find out the facts, they also want their 5 minutes of fame on TV. I also think that some are paid organizers. They organize the groups, work them up, and get them screaming at the town hall meetings.

9. I think they're stupid enough to get 80% of the way there . . .
. . . and hey, that's good enough!

(1) Obama is EVIL.

(2) Obama favors health care reform

(3) Health care reform is evil - and they're happy to let others fill in the primary colors on the paint-by-numbers Paranoid Reality v. 2009.1.

12. They don't really believe it.
They are just blasting it out there in hopes that people who are too stupid to look it up or use common sense will believe it and repeat it to others that are just as dumb.

13. No, this is how they make their (very, very good) living.
Few of these characters are true believers. They're just amoral, megalomaniacal bastards in love with money and the sounds of their own voices. Kinda like little Hitlers. The scary thing is most of their audience are true believers—think of Rush’s “dittoheads”—with little in the way of independent thought.

they know exactly what they are doing. they know damn well that no one is going to kill any old people... but if people think that they are, they will fight it for sure... and so they put forward this bullshit and watch the crazies come out of the woodwork.

21. i think that they think something is being taken from them. otherwise it makes no sense.
i think somehow they think they are going to take something from these people and give it to someone else... when in fact they would be getting MORE because we would all be getting covered and the costs would end up going down overall. but somehow they can't see that. all they see is somehow they are going to lose something.

19. They may have a point
I've done some preliminary research, and it does appear that, since Obama was inaugurated on Jan. 20, a significant majority of the people who have died in this country have, in fact, been elderly.

I fear that when the right gets a hold of these numbers, Obama will be on the defensive.
