Florida Legislature forces university to idolize Jeb Bush
Two weeks ago, the University of Florida voted to deny Jeb Bush an honorary degree.

Upset by this lack of Jeb Bush adoration, the conservative-controlled House Schools & Learning Council voted yesterday to force the university to rename its education school the “Jeb Bush College of Education.”

Over the faculty’s opposition, the school will now have “to erect ‘suitable markers‘ noting the college’s new name and include the revised name in all university documents, including catalogues and brochures.”

1. Another temper-tantrum from the Republick Party.
You know, I think the term "suitable markers" may be open to considerable interpretation.

9. Graffiti all over the bathrooms would be quite appropriate
seeing how this is really just a rich white man's territorial pissing contest.

2. All the better
for changing the name back later. Until then it will be "the School Formerly Known As"

They do this shit all the time in third world tin-pot dictatorships. Nothing to worry about.

4. They should have stuck with my plan. They should have invited him to receive a degree.
Think about it.

You invite the man to the school, to stand on stage and accept a degree. You let him give his little speech.

And then the President of the University gets to give a speech, explaining why they are awarding Jeb Bush an Honorary Doctorate of Douchebaggery.

Look!

The Emperor Has No Clothes!

You let these people come out, and then you justifiably hold them up to ridicule-- in public.

This is why I don't understand why The Center for Missing and Exploited Children dis-invited Bill O'Reilly.

They should have let him come as keynote speaker... and let him speak first.

And then, spent the rest of the evening publicly bashing him while he sat there.

Have we learned NOTHING from the funeral of Coretta Scott King?

Have we learned NOTHING from the day when Marcus Antonius said, "You can speak first, Brutus."

7. Good point! I hadn't thought of that. Although I doubt Bill-O would have had
the grace to sit through that without throwing a tantrum and walking out.

But you're right...would have been the way to go.

3. OMG...when I first read this I thought, "little late for April Fool's Day..."
Holy shit.

I think "suitable markers" would be book-shaped signs with pet goats on them, and some butterfly-ballot-signs with arrows pointing in the wrong directions to buildings.

That'd be appropriate.

5. They should let the students have a contest to design the most "suitable" marker.

Or, alternatively, they could bury the markers upside down, or post them on buildings with the wrong sides facing out.
