What kind of people should be soldiers?
Edited on Wed Aug-12-09 07:36 PM by Boojatta
I was reading another thread
when I realized that courage might be an inappropriate quality for a soldier to have. A courageous soldier will be brazen enough to desert.

America needs men and women who won't flee, even if their lives are threatened. America needs men and women who will stand their ground. In other words, America needs to recruit timid men and timid women to serve their country in the military.

2. What kind of people should be police officers?
The paradox of the policeman supposes that anyone who wants the job is by definition unfit.

5. I'm not accusing people in the military of lacking courage. Just the opposite.
They have courage, but conceptual analysis has revealed that courage is not an appropriate character trait for a military career.

Timid people have the quality that is most needed by the military.

I know. I know. I'm hyper-idealistic.

But, remember "What if they gave a war and nobody came?"

8. Yuor being too complicated in it. Here's who should join...
Someone who doesn't mind getting up at 4 in the morning to polish the brass shower drain before he takes a shower.

Somone who likes to hang out in the barracks on weekends so they can clean up the drunk's puke on Saturday morning who did go out the night before.

Someone who likes taking orders from a superior with less IQ that him.

Someone who thinks that there is some kind of spiritual character building phenomena in marching in a straight line.

Someone who likes having roomates slobber on your pillow because his folded clothes are on his bed and he decided to use yours to sleep in (because you left the barracks for the weekend to avoid cleaning the puke).

Someone who thinks Hummers are as fun to drive as Porsches

Someone who thinks that Hummers/tanks/bradleys/jeeps/blazers need fresh oil every day.

Someone who loves to eat breaded veal patties...4 days a week.

Someone who likes to freeze his ass off posting guard in a remote gate the Russians never knew was there, in 3 feet of snow, during a blizzard... for 5 hours.

Someone who is in his underwear during that blizard, because he's in a tank with the heat on full blast, then he jumps out and yells: "Damn! It's HOT IN HERE!" just as the tank passes by the freezing guard.

Many other reasons to join the Army... like teaching the Russian soldiers how to do The Time Warp (dance) through the German fence... and not getting in trouble for it.
