Typical White People
The Right Wing talking heads and Republican representatives in DC sure are doing their part to stoke the fears and prejudices of these typical white people I'm seeing every night on my tee vee and daily on line.

Maybe Obama was not really that far off the mark when he explained ...
The point I was making was not that my grandmother harbors any racial animosity, but that she is a typical white person. If she sees somebody on the street that she doesn't know - there's a reaction in her that's been bred into our experiences that don't go away and sometimes come out in the wrong way and that's just the nature of race in our society. We have to break through it. What makes me optimistic is you see each generation feeling less like that. And that's pretty powerful stuff.

... in response to this part of his A More Perfect Union speech:
I can no more disown him (Reverend Wright) than I can disown the black community. I can no more disown him than I can my white grandmother - a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and again for me, a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe.

These people are a part of me. And they are a part of America, this country that I love.

I hope there are more people out there that are feeling less like that.

I hope we can break through it.

1. If the "Typical white person" thought the way rightwing fools do Obama wouldn't have been elected.

4. If the election was whites only then McCain would have won.
Get real, the GOP has like eleven minority members. Sure a significant minority of whites voted Obama but it is a little oversensitive to pretend that majority (aka typical) doesn't REGULARLY vote Republican. Obama, I guess got the most white votes since Carter but still not the majority. Lots of whites are all about some trickle down, anti-government militias, and the status quo.

White doesn't equal Republican

but

Republican certainly equals white

Why get all pissy, when it is totally true with zero mitigating factors? White people set up this house of cards and many would like to preserve it in amber. How many yearn for a new 50's with a reanimated Reagan as King? More than half (at least among voters) with a few more wanting to go Libertarian Commando. We have about 38% of whites solid with another 8-10% that will flip back and forth depending on who they are most recently pissed at/disappointed with.

I promise there is a decent sized segment that say voted for Clinton, Bush, Obama, and will vote against Obama next time, these people are also semi against government but the anger takes the form of flipping back and forth in an effort to "throw the bums out" too but the plurality of whites just always vote Republiscum.

All of which were middle/late aged white people.
"Lots of whites are all about some trickle down, anti-government militias, and the status quo." and lots of Muslims are about radicalism islam and lots of blacks have problems with the law.

Do you understand how INSULTING statements like those are to the vast majority of any ethnic group who are decent people? Do you think rude statements like yours might be the reason alot of "Typical white people" feel alienated from the party? The same way the far right puts down minoritys some on the far left are obsessed with putting down white people.

The democratic party does a much better job of leaving race baiting out of politics, but sometimes someone just HAS to drag it up.

6. I see blatant racism in these town halls,
and I hear talking heads playing on the fears and prejudices of folks who are typically not racist.

There are other things I see, too, but the racism is there. Can you deny that?

How is my post race baiting?

21. Then your understanding of racial dynamics
in America is very limited. Race is the 800 lb. gorilla in the room.

2. I think there's been a split in the white community
Either white people are starting to move towards healing the racial divide, or they've decided they want nothing to do with people of other races.

3. Typical Asshole: You.
That's a mighty broad brush you paint with. Is it horsehair? My Grandpa said they were the best kind, and easiest to clean. His was 4" wide and he used it to dust his workshop. I'm thinking that yours must be at LEAST a foot wide, maybe more.

Here's a clue. Is someone is nuts or dangerous, look for body language, not body type.
