it will cost a trillion dollars the CBO says. Ove ten years, that is, but still, we simply cannot afford it.

Anybody know how much the Bush tax cuts will cost over ten years? Citizens for Tax Justice has numbers and projections.

The total is $1.9 trillion - almost twice the cost of health care reform.

Only 16.4% of that total is going to the bottom 60% of households while 37.6% is going to the top 1% of households. The total amount going to the top 20% of households is $1.3 trillion. Again, more than the cost of health care reform.

Then there's the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. From fiscal year 2003 to 2009, they have cost almost $900 billion - in just six years. Taking that same rate for ten years and that is almost $1.5 trillion - 50% more than the cost of health care reform.

So here's what Republicans say we can afford.

Tax cuts for rich people - $1.3 trillion. Yes
Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan - $1.5 trillion Yes
Health care reform - $1 trillion No
