Memo to media: When crazy brainwashed people scream & holler, it's not "debate"
I am BEYOND annoyed when every "anchor/anchorette" wants to talk about the "debate" going on ALL around the country.

If someone brought a flock of geese to a "me-me-mob/town brawl", and let them honk-up the place, it would NOT be any less of a debate, than what;s going on now.

It's a boilerplate propaganda campaign, pure & simple.

People who are pissed off that they did not have a viable candidate to vote for in November, and then the black guy won, are just mad as hell, and there is no debate going on..just little precursors to the race riots they long for.

No minds are changed, no facts are learned, no hearts are softened.

1. I learned in a diner that the P is doing this only to help black people, who have a low insured rate
Live and learn!

Welfare mothers also receive $4000 a month!

4. Sweet deal, eh? NOT! Ugh! They also said Canadians are streaming over the border
to get healthcare here.

Really, they said that.

so you can understand why they think shouting down people is viewed as a legitimate form of debate. What lacks for intellect is made up with bullying.

5. I thought I was watching another town hall meeting ...
and then it went to a commercial, and the announcer said "We will return to 'One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest' after these messages ..."

6. But in a way it IS debate
Edited on Thu Aug-13-09 04:25 PM by agent46
Television now defines the intellectual landscape of the corporate states of America. Propaganda talking points are manufactured ideas that substitute for thinking. With the right wing media as consolidated as it is, at this point there's very little work involved in whipping part of the population into a frenzy to channel the interests of the same powers that are keeping them down.

Debate in America now is really nothing more than an allowed maximum of two fictional viewpoints shouting at each other. It doesn't annoy me so much these days because the pattern has become predictable. It's the very definition of the word "debate" as demonstrated by any prime time political discussion news show since the fairness doctrine came into fashion. Facts don't matter and nobody gets to finish a thought. It's shadowboxing meant only to distract. But from what? That's my question.

The debate is being framed for us by redefining open debate and free speech as impotent short-lived forms of hostile dialectics. The corporate interests don't have to take our liberties from us. Redefining them for us is easier. To me, that's the real crime of what's going on at some of these town halls.

7. To distract the people from the somewhat invisible bondage of corporate supremacy.
"It's shadowboxing meant only to distract. But from what? That's my question."

If the American People were to really wake up to the diminishing influence of their own stature in regards to "We the people", then true Representative Government power would wax while that of the corporate/oligarchs would wane.

Power is what this is all about and that's why the corporate media would love nothing more than to turn civilized town hall debate in to Jerry Springer on steroids.

The corporate media are smart enough to know civilized debate leads to enlightenment and enlightenment is not their friend, so hostile dialectics must be touted and glamorized so as not to let any intelligent discourse seep through to the American People.

9. On hardball Lawrence said that these "debates" are changing
minds - specifically those of the independents who, although voting for President Obama, are now 2-1 saying these TH's are making them think unfavorably toward the health care plan. I agree that no activist's minds are being changed on either side but it does seem to be having an effect on the middle.

10. Exactly. The English language has been hijacked by the M$M
debate=argument
fair and balanced=biased and conservative
conservative=RW extremist
liberal=left of RW extremist

We could write our own RW talking points dictionary. Orwellian Desk Reference if you will.

To change the language is to change reality, and unless we agree on language, we will be living in two different worlds. I believe there is a concerted effort by the people behind the M$M to destabilize the US and derail the progressive movement. Intellectuals operate on logic, and this chaos is a virus that is infecting the left by creating a loop of endless analysis, so that these people gain the time to think of their next strategy.

We have to keep up with them and not get caught up in their chaos loop, and insist on defining concepts accurately. To call these shows on Fox Network Programming, and, yes--Arguments not Debates. WE define reality, WE conserve the English language as a foundation to build an accurate dialog, and be the antithesis of crazy by remaining calm, collected and confident.

Excuse my rant for length, it is very cathartic at this time :hi: Take what you need and leave the rest.
