Don't Tread On Me Flags & Posters......
Edited on Thu Aug-13-09 02:15 PM by global1
before this healthcare reform debate - I don't recall seeing "Don't Tread On Me" flags or posters. Is their an organization or a group that is promoting this and selling the flags and posters that we are seeing now crop up all over the country.

Is there a concerted effort by some group to do this.

Edited - sorry I spelled it wrong in my haste to post this. I can always count on people here to correct me though.

6. The Gadsden flag has long been a banner for the far-right, anti-government types.
The militia movement adopted it back in the 1990s, and it's been coming out more and more in the contemporary right-wing protests -- be they the current anti-health ones, or the Tea Party shindigs of a few months ago.

10. Had one at the Giffords event in Douglas, AZ.
Held up by two very straggly looking "kooks" (they almost looked homeless), aligned themselves with the rest of the teabaggers, didn't get in line to meet the congresswoman, but stood outside the line and shouted every so often.

They've been fighting to remain unthreaded for, like, ever. And now they're pissed! :scared:

12. The left had a Don't Tread on Me push, too, but media ignored us. RWers use Gadsden flag IGNORANT of

its actual meaning.

The reason some of us on the left used and revered the Gadsden flag is because it was the original flag of this country and its meaning was that, like most snakes, America was a nation that would not strike FIRST, but WILL strike back if disturbed.

Ben Franklin sided with the Gadsden remaining our nation's flag, but, the decision to go with a modified version of Great Britain's flag, the Stars and Stripes, was a compromise with those new Americans who still identified strongly with their nation of birth and its colours.

17. No, it's not enough said. McVeigh distorted its meaning as all RWers do. Don't blame the Gadsden
for idiots not getting its very simple meaning.

Ben Franklin preferred this country keep the Gadsden flag as its symbol - now THAT should be enough said.

If they did, they'd have been hoisting it and protesting Bush every day.

18. There's a guy across the street from me, flies a Gadsden under his American flag
on his front-yard flagpole.

I'm a little leery. Just like I'd be if I saw him with the American flag upside down. I'd assume he means we're in dire straits because--horrors--a black man is our president and the country is no longer being run by Republicans.
