Humana - Individual policy (the worst kind of policy) want 26% more next year!
Our policy costs few thousand dollars per year of course :(

We just got our renewal notice...I called and told them they are crazy and they are evil bastards! Told the lady I support the President 100% in his effort to put them assholes out of business!

We bought this policy a year ago, I went to the doctor 7 times during the year, not one of my claims for simple Dr.'s visits have been paid, they are all PENDED! I called them all year trying to figure out why these are pended claims...etc. They won't tell me, they just say waiting for more info from my doctor...etc. My doctor said she sent the information every time they asked.

I have bought all my meds (and my wife's too) out of pocket, bought generic, paid in cash...etc. BECAUSE I don't want them to know or have an excuse to raise my rates...etc. All year, I used them for one single prescription for my daughter, she had the flu, my out of pocket for the med was $90.00, my insurance covered $10.00 (yes the med was $100.00 for simple flu medication).

Dear God (if you are there), please strike ALL insurance companies with the most powerful force you can find/create/build/think of...And,

Please God, give President Obama All the force you can find/create/build/think of to help him FUCK the Mother Fuckers insurance companies - and their supporters.

Have I mentioned how much I hate the bastards?

P.S. Health Insurance Companies = GOP (IMHO)

5. I kept her on the phone for almost one hour...She was trying to help me figure out how to lower
my rate...Of course, their creativity is limitless!!! Bottom line, you can always get less coverages for less money of course. But the choices she gave me were very very creative, I am sure lawyers made tons of money designing such bullshit.

2. File a complaint with your state's insurance commissioner.
This is standard operating procedure for these health insurance profiteering cretins, especially when you have an individual policy. They will hound your doctors for your past medical history, hoping to uncover some nugget of information that will enable them to flat out deny your claim, whether due to a "preexisting condition" or because they find some evidence of a medical condition, no matter how minor, that you failed to disclose on your application.

I hate them too. I went through this over cancer treatment. My insurance company finally paid after I filed complaints with both the state's insurance commissioner, and the attorney general, and threatened a lawsuit. It's amazing how fast the filthy bastards will move when they realize you've got their number. After almost 6 months of constant foot dragging, my bills were paid in full in less than 48 hours after they received a packet of copies of complaints I'd filed as well as a letter from my attorney.

3. knr. Thanks for letting us know. So sorry....
That's the net effect of having insurance--afraid to use it because it will mean a raise in the cost of the policy, and then they drag their asses in paying. Guess Humana's exec want another mansion, private jet, etc.... Horrible.

And that's what is in the future for most/all of us if these crappy proposals go through--very high premiums! Like hell I'm gonna take out another mortgage to pay for health insurance every year. Obama is SOOOOO off on healthcare!

6. just curious
Waht kind of coverage are you supposed to getting for a few thousand a year? My family's PPO through work costs $17k a year, of which I pay a little over $5k directly from my paycheck. I'm cringing at what they are going to ask us to pay next year :(

7. Higher deductibles, less care, more out of my pocket
$2500.00 per person, $5000.00 per family deductible
Meds have a $500.00 Deductible
After Deductible is met: we pay 20%, they pay the rest...
Dr's visits co-pay:$35.00
Specialist: $50.00

And on an on...

What you have from work is usually the Cadillac of all policies at the highest prices of course, works at work because the company picks up most of the cost.

At my previous job, I had something similar to what you have, my out of pocket was about $4000.00 per year, when I took Cobra, my premium was $1065 per month!

This topic is one one ugly universe for me, I really hate talking about it and dealing with it...I am way too young for Medicare, but I can't wait to get there!!!

I have always heard that Humana sucked , but dang..your plan really sucked.

My hubby and I have BCBS of FL (PPO) and to be quite honest it isn't really that bad, considering what it would cost to be uninsured. We are a fam of 5 and less than $50 per week is taken out of my hubby's check every week for the premium. Lord knows we couldn't afford healthcare with out it esp. since the economy tanked. We only grossed $45K last year.

THe thing that I don't understand about insurance is why everyone can't pool together and buy in to a plan and get a group discount like the businesses are able to. Seem like the more people allowed in , the less risk there would be, and premiums would (should) go down.

12. Bingo, Obama's plan will allow people into one big plan, lowering
the cost for everyone - that plan will compete with my plan.

Health Insurance when you get it from your employer is way way better - way different than what I have.

15. They are using a red herring tactic.. asking for 50+% then getting 20+
Edited on Fri Aug-14-09 08:08 AM by wroberts189
So it "sounds" like they were pulled back when they are still making record profits and the hikes are way above inflation.

Last year they wanted to raise us another 80 a month for two people. CT cut it back to around 20. They got a 50 increase the year prior to that.

Since signing up 4 years ago our rate has gone up 30%.
