Five years after Lynddie England became the face of the Abu Ghraib abuse scandal, the disgraced US soldier spoke to Newsnight's Hilary Andersson.

In a hard-hitting interview she talks about the death threats that mean she is still scared to leave her home; her agony over how to tell her five-year-old son about the photographs and her refusal to accept that she did anything wrong.

If I were in her shoes I probably wouldn't apologize either. She did her time. If god is watching s/he sure as hell would have brought little boots to justice. If she is so unhappy with those who forced her to do these inhuman things then she should repent and try to make things right by naming names as far up the food chain as she can. Otherwise some of us might get the (mistaken?) idea that she is an illiterate dumbass hillbilly who actually enjoyed doing the things she did to those rag heads.

Again she WILL have a shitty life. That much was more or less established before she was born. But she could have salvaged something by exhibiting a little humanity.

Sucks to be her.
