Mere truth is a weak weapon against
a dedicated and well-financed campaign of lies and deceit.

I just heard that the majority of the public is now against health care reform of any flavor. (I hope this is just another of the lies.)

1. Somebody once said the first casualty of war is truth...
...and it's all too apparent that the insurance companies and their lackeys are prosecuting this as though it were a war.

5. That is precisely why I want the Fairness Doctrine back
In practice, it would mean far less air-time for any political opinion-mongering.

People would have to talk to their friends and neighbors to hash out their thinking.

They'd still hear lies and misinformation, but it wouldn't be coordinated. It wouldn't seem to come from everywhere. They might just evaluate what they heard.

6. Poll: No change in Obama's approval on health care
From CNN

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/08/12/poll-no-change-in-obamas-approval-on-health-care/

It looks from this that a slight majority against it has been the trend for awhile, so I'm not sure if your statement the public is *now* against it is quite right...

Its an interesting situation, to be sure though. I believe Obama when he says that the system will crash without some kind of intervention. But one important thing is that any such system can be messed up if enough people have the will to mess it up, just as the alternatives. At some point you have to get to a stage where people can live by their own dictates, which is to say conservatives neither pay for nor have government coverage, but progressives do have it and do pay for it. That's the only way I can see forward.

10. They are only "satisfied" with it until they actually try to use it.
The problems are not obvious until you try to get your insurance to pay for something expensive, or until you lose your job, or until you get yourself thrown off the plan for some made-up reason.
