is that no politician, including Obama, is willing to stand up and tell it like it is, i.e. that
corporations are the problem . . .
healthcare is probably the prime example at the present time . . . if corporations were cut out of the healthcare equation, we'd have plenty of money to fund a single payer system that covers everyone -- and probably have money left over . . . estimates are that corporate profits, administration, overhead, advertising, marketing, executive salaries and perks, etc. are responsible for nearly a third of our healthcare costs . . . remove those expenses -- none of which have
anything to do with providing efficient, quality healthcare -- and the cost problem is solved . . . also solved is the practice of non-medical personnel making daily decisions on healthcare for individuals, some of which are a matter of life and death . . .
the same scenario holds true for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the energy crisis, environmental destruction, agriculture and food production, trade, etc., all of which are driven by corporate profits with no regard for moral or ethical considerations . . . in short, the corporations are running the show, and not even Congress and the president are powerful enough to stand up to them and say "ENOUGH!" . . . even if they wanted to, which apparently they don't . . . could all those corporate campaign contributions have anything to do with this lack of true leadership? . . .
so THE central problem facing us is regaining citizen control over corporations and, by extension, our own government . . . until that is addressed, not much in the way of real progress is going to happen in healthcare, the wars, energy, the environment, agriculture, trade, or any other major issue area . . .
