weld county, colo., rancher seeks help executing horses in protest of zoning code
this is just sickening :(

LOCHBUIE - The flyer says a horse owner needs help finding executioners. He wants people to come to his property and help gun down 24 horses.

The Weld County Sheriff's Office says the flyer is being passed around the county by 64-year-old Trenton Parker.

According to the sheriff's office, Parker is upset because he faces a 90-day jail sentence for contempt of court because he didn't clean up his property, which is at County Roads 8 and 35 north of Lochbuie.

He was first ordered to remove converted mobile homes from his property on Dec. 31, 2007 and the sheriff's office says he hasn't.

The mobile homes are a violation of county zoning codes.

On the flyer, Parker says he's looking for riflemen to publicly execute 24 registered horses as a way to protest the zoning codes. He says the shootings will happen at high noon on Sept. 5.

6. I fail to see the correlation
If he'd gotten in trouble for not being zoned to raise horses I guess that could make some degree of sense.

He ought to burn down his mobile homes instead, that would be more logical.

9. I guess some are gutted
and used as sheds or something, best I can tell from the reporting. It sounds like it might be a case of one of those crotchety old bastards who have lived in a dump their entire lives, and finally had "civilization" catch up to them.

7. News Video of flier "For Tea Party Information"
People need to watch that video and catch the film of the flier.

Those are the same NRA 2nd amendment nuts that we're letting intimidate us on gun responsbility.

8. He knows exactly what he's doing
Or thinks he does at any rate.

He believes the average citizen is going to find this proposal so disgusting and abhorrent that there will be a huge ground swell of support from the public to pressure the county to back off and let him continue to maintain the substandard conditions that led to his problems in the first place.

He's partially correct. Most people will find it disgusting. But nobody's going to be bullied into letting him break the law.

Sounds like a fucking baby threatening to hold his breath until he turns blue if he doesn't get his way.

He needs to act like a man instead of a spoiled child.

In all honesty, he probably can't feed the horses he has.

I have met many people like this guy, they are collectors. They collect old cars, trailer homes, appliances, junk. They litter their land with it, always have some grandiose plan with what to do with it that, somehow, never happens. There are dozens of these people all around me in Arizona. Their land becomes a junkyard. It's sad in so many ways. When they die, their heirs or the state has to come in and clean things up.

The really sad part is that some of them collect animals as well, you all know about the cat and dog people, but horses, goats, pigs and other animals can fall victim to these people as well. The animals are usually not looked after very well, with infrequent Vet visits, barely enough food and clean water, and not enough space to roam and exercise. You can see the size of the pens he has these horses in. It breaks my heart. Animal Planet has shows devoted to the crimes these people commit. I can't watch it because it make me so sad to see people treat animals that way.

13. The ranchers around here get really pissed off
When somebody refers to a pack rat like this asshole as a "rancher" because he owns a few acres of land.

We have 'em around here too. Falling down buildings, rusted out hulks of cars, trucks, tractors, and parts, overgrown neglected fields, unsurfaced rutted neglected driveways.

It's been pretty much tolerated by the libertarian county dads but the outside world is beginning to filter in and they have somewhat higher expectations.

A couple of years ago there was an armed confrontation between a code enforcement officer and one of these losers when the officer tried to enforce a cease and desist notice to get rid of some of the mobil homes on his property.

14. Right, as usual, Tom
Same thing, just over the Fresno County line from you here. We've been fighting one next door to us here for over five years in court. The son collected every imaginable kind of crap--40+ vehicles, burned out trailers, stacks of old tires, you name it--and then got himself killed. Mom moved back up here in the mountains, and decided to make our lives miserable.

The county won a judgement against them years ago to make them clean it up, as we are all zoned agricultural, NOT for junkyards. I'm still trying to get them to enforce it. Instead, they allowed them to build a 6' high corrugated, rusty sheet metal wall around it. Instead of moving the junk inside, they just kept expanding it out to envelope it. So its warehouse sized. About 4 years ago, they caught it on fire. It took two fire departments, a spotter plane, and an overhead water bomber all day to put it out. If the winds had changed direction, our farm would have been wiped out. You'd think that would add some urgency to the clean up, but no.

That reminds me--time to call my County Supervisor's office again and rattle their cage about it.

OK, you have a point in that Weld County is where that crazy pentecostal bitch has her base.

But we in the Colorado 4th threw her sorry ass out last year!

All hail Betsy Markey!!!

12. Perhaps we should also ask why anybody cares if his property is a junkyard.
I don't know how close he is to other neighbors but assuming he isn't disturbing anybody, why does anybody care if he uses old mobile homes as hay sheds?

I don't agree with his actions, but I can empathize with his frustration. Government is, at times, much too invasive.
