In a rare print interview, Dick Cheney talks about Iraq, Iran, Chuck Hagel, his image as 'Darth Vader' and Bob Woodward.

Cheney spoke to NEWSWEEK's Richard Wolffe. Excerpts:

Public opinion has this caricature of you as Darth Vader and various things. Do you think you get a fair crack from the media?

CHENEY: By the time I leave here, it will have been over 40 years since I arrived in Washington, and I've been praised when I didn't deserve it, and probably criticized when I didn't deserve it. And there aren't enough hours in the day for me to spend a lot of time worrying about my image.

Bob Woodward reported that President Ford thought you had justified the war wrongly, and that Ford agreed with Colin Powell that you developed a fever about Saddam Hussein, about terrorism. Did you feel that was accurate?

CHENEY: I've never heard that from anybody but Bob Woodward.

And other comments—criticism from Scowcroft about not knowing you anymore. People have gotten quite personal, people you worked with before. You wouldn't be human if you didn't have some reaction.

CHENEY: Well, I'm vice president and they're not.

Really, you could drop the "vice" (though I'm sure Cheney has many). This man, in his head thinks he is president. And no matter how many times frat boy Bush says "I'm the decider!" you somehow *know* that Cheney is the true "decider" from the shadows of the secret government.
