So how many did march in DC?
All I've heard anywhere is "tens of thousands", as if they're too chicken to actually tell us how many there were. I saw a guesstimate of 600,000 but that sounds excessive.
I'd just like to hear a good estimate if anyone's heard?

2. 100,000. Based upon what I saw.
I was at the march and would say around 100,000 would be the
best guess.

4. I'm curious as to how you think you have an estimate at all.
I too was at the march, and I agree that there were a lot of people there, but on what basis can you or I actually estimate the crowd size?

What you need for an actual fact based estimate is a good high-res overhead picture of the entire crowd. That picture can then be divided into grids, and a few random grids can be head-counted, and then that count can be extrapolated into a reasonable estimate. Has anyone actually done this?

5. I was there too.
It was so hard to tell from the ground what the count was. The people continued to pour in as the march began. We need an ariel, unfortunately it looks like the only picture like that belongs to the goons in the blue helicopter. What a great crowd. People of all age and race gathered together for a common cause. Great day!

11. 500,000 were at Clinton's inaugural.
I was there for that and crowd completely covered the mall
from the Capitol halfway back to the Washington Monument. It
looked to me like this crowd was about 1/5 of that.

7. I think the UFPJ estimate is based on how long the march was..

I was on the front end and by the time we circled the capital and returned to the mall, we could see the tail end of the march.

Btw - Initially we were suppose to make a U-turn behind the capital and there was even a Metro bus blocking the march. Thanks to last minute negotiations by Jesse Jackson, Sean Penn and others, the bus was moved and we were allowed to continue past the Capital on to Independence Ave. The march could have been a totally mess if we had been forced to make a U-turn.

But thanks to all who took the effort to do so anyway.

10. My guess is 250K
I'm basing that on what I saw and having lived in the DC area for 40 years and what past estimates have been.
