As chilling as this horror-movie is, I have a hunch the sequel is going to be even scarier! The Monster Mash is going to play again when the New Secret Government starts to sing in the upcoming Congressional hearings.

What is most terrifying is how these same unelected appointees that make up the Secret Government keep coming back again and again. And it seems only their own death (In the case of William Casey) will stop them coming back. Even North plays his part at Rupert Murdoch's Ministry of Truth

14. Oh that's so pre-911 Things are different now, we *really* are in danger.
:sarcasm:

Of course, that wonderful secret government created the enemies we now face, but that's just a minor problem. :eyes:

Scary to think this has been going on for nearly 60 years - can we ever go back?

Where are all those "scholarly" types speaking against the secret govt in this documentary now? Why haven't they chimed in with regards to * ? I suppose some are starting to come out now that Dimson is tanking, but where and why have they been hiding?

I was impressed with the younger John Kerry in this video, just wish he'd have shown that much out spoken concern for the Constitution while he was running. Then again, it probably wouldn't have worked. Americans tend to believe that bit about the need for secrecy to keep them safe. :banghead:

47. Post 9-11 and the fact that Kerry had no freedom to include Clinton administration
in his critique as all the DNC people and Dem spokespeople were STILL Clinton loyalists there and they would give him NO backup in that area.

I think the next goround will see Kerry going after the whole lot of them. Different DNC chair who cares more about the real Dem party and its constituency than in protecting Clintons and their alliance with the Bushes.

This is incredible stuff. Not incredible that we wouldn't believe our government would do such things, but incredible that it was once reported.

Now I know why Reagan killed off fair reporting.

What puzzles me is that the CITIZENS 20 years ago seemed much more thoughtful and aware. Not fearful, apathetic, mean and ignorant like they are now. What happened?

36. What happened?
Newt Gingrich, for one. He not only introduced a venomously partisan and scorched earth approach to Washington politics and governance, he recruited a gazillion stormtroopers like Rick Santorum, and many, many others.

The Southern Strategy, for another, including the wholesale recruting of fundamantalists into the political arena. That, to my knowledge, was the start of using wedge issues to divide Americans (Democrats) cynically in order to win elections.

You see, the Republicans have a problem -- and they've known about it for a while. They know that the country at heart overwhelmingly supports basic Democratic ideals -- so that immediately puts them at a disadvantage. They also know that the demographics show that the U.S. population will include more and more minorities (Dem voters, most of them) and there's no stopping that (but no wonder some of them are so hysterical about immigration!!).

SO -- if they don't want to simply die off as a party, they have felt the need to:

1. Recruit social conservatives to the max, as a core base of their party
2. Use wedge issues against us -- minorities, gays, abortion, etc.
3. Engage in deceit re their agenda, etc., often adopting absolutely Orwellian rhetoric to do so (e.g., Clear Skies Initiative)
4. Stack the deck during elections by any and every means possible, from rigged voting machines to vote suppression techniques to whatever else they can think of and do.

Otherwise, it's curtains for the GOP. It's that simple.

22. Peculiar comment by John Kerry:
Edited on Sun Jan-21-07 08:15 AM by rman
@ 20:05
"..They put the Constitution at risk because they believed there was a higher order... That the ends do in fact justify.. are justified by the means. That's the most Marxist totalitarian doctrine i've ever heard."

- First and least important (i put this down as a minor mistake): Kerry mixes up the expression "The ends justify the means"; Kerry says "the means justify the ends".

- Second, more importantly: Kerry says this secret "anti-communist" network (Poindexter, Oliver North et al) follows a "Marxist (totalitarian) doctrine" - which is practically saying that these anti-communists are themselves communists. That does not make much sense especially since the Iran/Contra gang was by their own admission in it not only for anti-communist ideals but also for making a buck - millions of bucks in fact. That doesn't sound like Marxism factors in there somewhere.
On top of that Kerry is implying that Marxism is implicitly totalitarian, which it obviously is not - but which does help perpetuate the concept that communism/socialism is a great (the greatest) threat to 'democracy and freedom'. This is the very same idea that's being fostered by the illegal anti-communist 'secret government' that was exposed in the Iran/Contra hearings.

I agree with Kerry that "putting the Constitution at risk" (essentially ignoring the constitution) is totalitarian - but that has more to do with greed and criminality (and supposedly with anti-communist ideals) than it has to do with Marxism. If anything, they are anti-Marxist.
The point that Kerry seems to miss here is that in this case capitalist ideals do coincide with a totalitarian doctrine.

Edited on Sun Jan-21-07 04:50 PM by DianaForRussFeingold
The Secret Government aired on PBS in 1987. Moyers is a very respected TV journalist who also worked for Lyndon B. Johnson and has a very professional approach. 10 minutes; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnF7y5wyDcI The following video answers the question why the Overthrow of Nicaragua and Iran Contra. I think their mindset was the ends justify the means. I found this especially interesting At 02:30;2min.30sec.in following video, President Reagan "If illegal acts were under taken ,those who did so will be brought to justice" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKXZfwG43pU

41. Ortega is Back! 'The Secret Government'Video,Is A Great Example Of History Repeating.K&R
Ortega is Back!
Ortega, a former Marxist who spent the 1980s fighting off the U.S.-backed Contra rebel insurgency. Ortega led Nicaragua throughout the 1980s after his Sandinista rebel movement pushed out dictator Anastasio Somoza.

Following his 1990 electoral loss, he ran for president three consecutive times, losing twice before finally triumphing in November. Now he's promising to eradicate poverty and solve rolling blackouts that sometimes force airplanes to circle over the capital until light is restored to the darkened airport.

With few resources of his own, he has to walk a fine line as he seeks help from both Washington and its foes. The U.S. government so despised Ortega during the 1980s that Oliver North and other aides to then-President Reagan secretly sold arms to Iran's radical Islamic government to finance clandestine aid for the Contra rebels in a bid to overthrow him. North showed up again during Ortega's latest presidential campaign, predicting dire consequences if he returned to power.

The U.S. has expressed guarded support since Ortega's election, and Ortega has promised to maintain ties to Washington. If those ties are severed, some fear the superpower could pull investment and $48 million in annual aid that includes promises to build a regional training center for health workers.

Ortega has avoided openly criticizing Washington, but his focus so far has been strengthening ties with Chavez and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, both of whom have agreed to spend billions of dollars around the globe on projects to counterbalance U.S. influence, especially in Latin America and Africa. http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/story.html?id=90e19f57-f399-4e70-ae0a-2cfd9f04a20d&k=20077
