I accidentally clicked on Meet the Press and....
Edited on Sun Jan-28-07 12:49 PM by senseandsensibility
(that's the ONLY way I would switch onto one of the corporate "news" shows these days), and there was Chuck Schumer. I decided to give him a couple of seconds. After all, he IS a Dem, right? And with our newfound majority status, maybe he'd found the courage to say something worth listening to.

And what were his pearls of wisdom? He was bemoaning the way Dems in power in the past had let the AFL-CIO approve legislation. He criticing past Dems. I let it go for a few more seconds, but he continued in this mealy mouthed vein.

Is this how our "leaders" are presenting themselves on TV these days? It was really discouraging. He was also talking about how middle America is sick of BOTH political parties. Oh yeah, Chuck, that's why we just won a landslide.

CAN ANYONE IMAGINE ANY REPUG TALKING LIKE THIS AFTER THEY HAD WON IN A LANDSLIDE?:argh:
edited to add: I think it was Meet the Press. Since I switched on it accidentally, and didn't actually see the moderator, I'm not sure.

2. didn't he also say that the Dems have no platform?
No, Chuck. YOU HAVE NO platform. The rest of the party is working just fine on one, honest.

Pathetic.:( I'm glad I missed it, though, because I might have thrown something at the teevee.

3. DINO? Now that we are in charge they will have to show up to put our party down. They can stay hid
hidden as long as we are out of power.

4. Expect to see lots more of this.
Now that Kerry's out of the presidential race, he probably won't get as much face time as someone like Schumer, or other Hillary allies.

But then, that is what a lot of people on DU and dailykos wanted. Whenever Kerry spoke out - against the war, against Rumsfeld, against Alito, for accountability, for SBA reforms, you name it, but NOT attacking other Dems - there was the chorus of "shut up Kerry" and "go away Kerry".

I don't think the op was part of that but for those who were - you got what you wanted. At least as far as Hillary and her bought media have any say about it, although Kerry will still be out there trying to get the word out anyway.

For those of you who were part of it, you got what you wanted, you turned down the volume on a good progressive Democrat and turned up the volume on the likes of Schumer. You got what you wanted, and I hope you are happy.

Oh, and Hillary proved that attacking Democrats achieves the desired result, because too many other Dems won't make her pay. So expect to see more.

9. I absolutely was not part of that
and I really don't understand your comment. I was a huge Kerry supporter. I know you didn't dirrecty your comments at me. However, regardless of how individual DUers reacted to Kerry, Schumer should know better. His constituents should demand better. WE should demand better.

19. It's frustration
I probably should have posted it on another thread, but I had written it and then realized you weren't one of the offenders.

It's frustrating to see the wailing and gnashing of teeth at Schumer's behavior, in light of what has gone on.

We SHOULD demand better. But some were demanding better to STFU.

5. Tuning in to MTP is always a mistake these days
It's a showcase for mealy mouthed Dems and right wing talking points.

I've tuned in twice in the past three years, and each time I've regretted it.

7. Oh no!
Letting unions, representing millions of working Americans, help to approve legislation? How could that ever happen? We know the present administration is so concerned about the plight of everyday working Americans. What will those crazy Democrats think of next? :sarcasm:

8. Yeah WTF is up with Schumer. I saw him on The Daily Show briefly, and all
he could talk about was the Dem's PROBLEMS losing the middle class.

Now don't get me wrong, I hate the Republicans for their arrogance.

But wouldn't it have been reasonable for a leading Dem, on a Dem-friendly show, to say "The Republicans have the problem--the decisive victories in NOV 06 showed that the American people are tired of the corruption and incompetence with which they've run the country"?

It's starting to feel like many of the leading Democrats in the party machinery have tone deaf political ears, or are still conditioned by Republican abuse.

15. It's almost like he's pushing a book?
Does he have a book out with that theme or something? Of all the things he could have been talking about this week-end, or at least trying to interject into the conversation.....grrr... well, don't get me started again. I just got the impression from the few seconds that I watched that he was pushing this meme for some reason.

21. Oh, so he is putting his own fame/financial gain
ahead of the good of the country and using precious media time to push a book? Anyone know anything about this book? If it's anything like his pontificating this morning, it sounds like it bashes Dems.

14. This is why we do not need the DLC
They are too far in the pocket of the corporations and to hell with ordinary working folks. They are a liability within the Democratic Party.

22. That is baldly false
Not a little false but wholesale, baldly false. I just got done watching this and he didn't mention the AFL CIO. He said the ACLU was writing crime legislation. In the future I respectively request that you either watch the entire clip and know what you are talking about or don't post at all.

24. I apologize
Edited on Sun Jan-28-07 03:30 PM by senseandsensibility
As I stated, I was only watching for a few seconds. My main gripe was his tone, which was critical of Dems in the past, and not in any way hepful in the current serious struggle that we are in with people who want to destroy our country. I did my best to remember the name of the organization, and I am sorry if I was wrong. However, I stand by my comments about his tone, his choice of topic at this critical time, and his preference for pushing a book over talking in a focused manner about the life and death issues we know face.

25. It was literally the last minute of the discussion
virtually all of which was about Iraq, BTW. He was directly asked about his book. He didn't go on and on about it and had talked for easily 5 or more minutes about Iraq and the War on Terror. Again, either watch the whole interview and get your facts straight or don't post. MTP has online video, which is how I was able to find out what he actually said.
