"Encourage our enemies" and "discourage our troops"?
What is most discouraging to our troops: Reading about or seeing on television that some people are questioning the lack of a strategy in Iraq or getting their third tour of duty in this civil war?? I would say the latter might be more discouraging?

As for "encouraging our enemies", everytime they blow up our troops with an IED, they are "encouraged". They believe, they know, they already have the Americans defeated. The Americans entered a gunfight with nothing but a pocket knife and the arrogance of George A Custer. This president and the neocons have encouraged "terrorists" all around the world with their short-sighted strategy. There's nothing we can do to encourage them more.

1. The same way Stalingrad "encouraged" the Germans to fight on.
And "discouraged" the Russians because of the "gallant German sacrifice".

At least that's how Goebbels framed it.

4. Yep....
This is their only defense for supporting Bush. Democrats are emboldening the enemy, they are saying. Democrats are traitors.

3. Every time I hear Bush say ...... will "embolden the enemy" I want to smack him in the face.
Talking about withdrawing, war protests, general criticism of the war is according to him, "emboldening the enemy". It is so horribly manipulative. What really bugs me is that some people believe it.
