6. The link isn't working.
I am sick and tired of Rosie being linked with people like Imus. I am beginning to wonder if she isn't the real target of all of this because of the way she speaks out against the Bush administration. Rosie continually reminds her viewers of the corruption and lies of this administration and hasn't been quiet in her calls for impeachment.

11. It was the insult to Asians--the Ching Chang Chong thing she did pretending to speak Chinese
that was problematic.

Hey, I have maintained that the only reason Imus got canned was because he is anti-war. Yep, his remarks were dreadful. But they weren't the worst he's ever said--of course, his really bad stuff back in the day when he was pro-Iraq War never got any attention from the media at all.

Frigging Limbaugh sang "Barack, the Magic Negro" in a minstrel voice last month, and no one said a fucking word about about THAT. Where's the outrage?

But hey, he's pro-war....

13. It was childish, but not intentionally trying to insult people, as with Imus
I don't have much love for Rosie. I was kinda stunned that she'd use such a tired cliche, but it was not in a context of trying to deliberately insult people. And she apologized.

BTW, don't anyone think for minute they want Rosie off the air for her "racist" comment. She's been out actively promoting the notion of 9/11 being an inside job. That's why some are trying to shut her up.

21. I agree with you.
She wasn't intentionally trying to denigrate Asians with her comment. Imus was intentionally trying to denigrate both women and blacks with his.

She can spout off all she wants about MIHOP, I just hope all the people watching are smart enough to realize the majority of it has been debunked. Unfortunately, the average American daytime TV viewer may have a tough time separating fact from fiction. MIHOP, of course, being the latter.

32. "Nothing" debunked? That's not true.
Much like evolution, not everything from the day can be proven without a shadow of a doubt, but the majority of it has been debunked as pure fantasy.

Have you read the popular mechanics article? It was basically educated, experienced scientists and engineers vs. Dylan Avery. Guess who won that battle? There is a debate between the two groups on google video. It was a massacre, lol.

There's also a great video debunking "loose change" on google. It counters and discredits the entire movie.

I think South Park put it best.

Stan: But....who DID do 9/11 then?
Kyle: A bunch of pissed of Muslims, who do you think?
Hardly Boys: Yeah, what are you, retarded?
Everyone in room: HAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAH!

I'm sure at least some of those contributors are Democrats.

Give me a break. Not everything you disagree with is a Rove orchestrated conspiracy.

I can't think of one high profile, respected scientist, engineer or politician who buys into this crap. Unless you count Charlie Sheen and Rosie O'Donnell. I don't. Or the majority of the Arab world. They think the Jews did it.

Rosie O'Donnell said on The View that this was the first time that fire has ever melted steel, or something along those lines. I'm from Pittsburgh and I assure you that steel can be bended, broken, and melted from fire. It's basically why my city exists.

When Nancy Pelosi puts together a committee to investigate MIHOP, let me know.

That "promoted" the war, or supported Bushcos foreign policy, I will eat my hat.

They have articles on weapons, aircraft etc, even specific military units occasionally. Why? Because it involves technology, science, and is usually an interesting read.

You'll find similar articles on DU, (V-22 Osprey debate going on in GD right now), that doesn't mean DU is promoting the war, that's ridiculous.

Not to be vindictive or anything, but I was asking questions about your (now obviously) wrong facts, and you were rather short and rude with me, telling me how you aren't my errand boy, I'm espousing right wing pro war propaganda, etc. To put it bluntly, you were 100% wrong, and you were rude in the process.

Edited on Mon Apr-16-07 07:28 AM by Atman
Of course, being wrong about Murdoch owning PM doesn't make my statement about PM promoting the war wrong. Just who published the information. Hearst doesn't exactly have a stellar record when it comes to war propagandizing, you know (remember the Maine?).

And of course, you're still a bit off on your facts. I didn't "accuse you" of "espousing right wing propaganda." You offered up the right wing propaganda. You "espoused it" on your own. I, and others from whom you don't seem to be seeking an apology, merely pointed it out. The article you referenced -- the only article you referenced -- has been debunked many times.

No, don't hold your breath. I was never the slightest bit rude to you, I merely questioned your source. You might want to re-read the posts, maybe you can point out my "rude" comments. But I won't hold my breath, either.

Also, the Rupert Murdoch claims are quite strange since the magazine is owned by the Hearst organization. I don't see where Murdoch factors into it.

From Ben Chertoff himself:

Here's the story, as best as I know: I'm not related to Michael Chertoff, at least in any way I can figure out. We might be distant relatives, 15 times removed, but then again, so might you and I. Bottom line is I've never met him, never communicated with him, and nobody I know in my family has ever met or communicated with him.

65. Here is a quote I found while looking for the Murdoch link...
"Hence, Popular Mechanics - with its 25-year-old online editor and "senior" researcher Benjamin Chertoff who is the cousin of Michael Chertoff - exhibits this clear tendency not to focus on the science as might be expected for such a magazine. Rather, the staff are actively looking for straw men like the Danner hoax that can easily be debunked."

And interesting link, btw; not vouching for it, there's some weird stuff. But it did link the Chertoff's as related.

WTC 7 fell down into its own footprint with no fire present. Or a very minor fire.

Explain that one.

Buildings only collapse into their own footprint under controlled demolition conditions.

30. Who gets to judge?
Actually, I didn't see the Rosie incident, so I can't measure that. But considering how much I've heard the n-word and the h-word used in everyday language, I don't find it unlikely that something Rosie said could be worse than what Imus said. For example, Limbaugh's attack on Parkinsons' patients was worse, but he still has his job. Naturally someone like Rosie is next on the list, not Limbaugh. Hmmm.

56. Rosie's wasn't as bad, and here's why...
Imus intended to insult the Rutgers players. He didn't have a joke, he wasn't making a point, he wasn't telling a story, he was simply ragging on them because they were women and supposedly black (they all weren't black). Imus's comments were part of a larger "bit" which was equally, if not more, offensive than the line that got him shitcanned.

Rosie, otoh, was making some dumbass statement about the Chinese people by doing a grade-school squinty-eyed "impersonation" and saying "ching chong ching chong." That's what she said. It was lame, it was insensitive, but I fail to see how it could possibly be considered worse -- or even as bad -- as what Imus did/said. Especially given their histories; he has a long one of doing this sort of thing, she doesn't. That alone mitigates it.

But MH1 brings up the more direct underlying problem, right in his subject line -- Who gets to judge? A government agency with a guide book expanding upon Carlin's seven dirty words? A preacher? A left-wing loonie, or an extremist wing-nut? A committee of same? When do we stop, when do we know when we've rooted out all the offensiveness from our language?

And who gets to judge?

.

42. If you do not like her turn off the station.
I used to do that with Imus when he had people I did not like or he talked bad. I do that with lots of people. You may have to turn in your teachers but hardly a radio talk person. Where my son works they made the 'Rush nut' wear ear phones but they still let him hear Rush as he worked. It is really a shock to hear we can not have people on radio and TV that we frankly do not like and say things we hate. I thought that all went with freedom of thought.

77. Once I recall some nut in the govt. did not want Marx read.
Now I really thought that was so silly. I grew up in a very open minded home I guess. The odd part was that my family gave a good deal of money to the GOP. I do not recall any one that was not in that party. I have a friend my age and her family were the same and we talk about what happened to the GOP. I think they went with this group of nuts that want to run the party and jam their values at me and every one else. Not the party of my family at all.

51. That's actually kind of a good thing, isn't it?
I know you probably don't like the fact that Rosie might be put under the "hate speech" magnifying glass, but doesn't that put other asshats like Glenn Beck and Ann Coulter under it too?

71. Well, we have the new standard: people can be fired for saying things that offend.
I can't fathom how anyone would think this would be applied only to people who aren't progressives.
