BURLINGTON, Vt. --Clear Channel Communications plans to sell four Burlington area radio stations, following a series of budget cuts.
The stations for sale are WEZF-FM 92.9, WVTK-FM 92.1, WXZO-FM 96.7 which also broadcasts on WEAV-AM 960, and WCPV-FM 101.3.
The stations are included in the 448 smaller-market stations that Clear Channel is selling.
The company announced on Nov. 16 that two large investment companies were purchasing Clear Channel for $26.7 billion, which included $8 billion in debt repayment. The company said if the deal, which is not complete, falls through it still plans to sell the smaller market stations.
They "will be going on the block. How long that will take or where they are in the process? I have no idea," said Tom Barney, Clear Channel's Burlington market manager.
Clear Channel also has traded five stations, including WZRT-FM and WSYB-AM in Rutland to Pamal Broadcasting Ltd. of Albany, N.Y. In exchange, Clear Channel received WRNX-FM in Springfield, Mass., said Debbie Grembowicz, general manager of Pamal Broadcasting's Vermont stations.
