How soon before Va Tech starts their PR campaign to keep students from
Edited on Mon Apr-16-07 12:14 PM by RGBolen
leaving. UT got some bad press for asking students to not drop out and leave too soon after the bell tower shooting.

1. They could make it tuition free for a year.
That is what it may have to come too.

2. I don't think they could do that sort of thing...
without an act of the state legislature, and besides, it'd be bad for business.

7. I know, I know....
but jeepers, this is going to be a hard school to keep-up enrollment and staff for a long time....just my guess...

4. Is This Question Really Appropriate Now?
Is this question -- and questions like it -- really appropriate at this time?

Over 20 people -- real, live PEOPLE -- have been shot to death.

I would rather spend time reflecting on the terrible loss of so many bright young people - and the tragedy that their families and friends must be feeeling -- than speculating on what might (or might not) happen in the future.

8. Now is when they would be doing something that would be considered too early

There was a murder at the school I went to and they started pushing students who were leaving that day. They were on TV the same day talking about how safe the school was and how there was no need for students to leave, on the day of the murder.

10. And Your Point Is.....?
I'm sorry, but I really do not understand your point here.

Is it that since a school you went to did something stupid and insensitive, that we should now talk about the possibility (however remote) that VPI might also do something stupid and insensitive?

I'm sorry, but I think I'll wait until VPI actually does something insensitive and stupid, and refrain from speculation.\

Now is a time to demonstrate concern and compassion.

Now is not the time to engage is silly speculation.

11. I'm sure they will do something. As I said how long before

I'm sure there were people in the administration already discussing possible drops in enrollment. You have to remember it took federal law to force colleges to publicly report crimes at all.

12. Well, Of Course The Will Do "Something"
Well, of course, people in the VPI administration will do something.

I still do not understand your point.

13. So you think it's perfectly fine for them to be worried about enrollment right now?

When do you think they should start TV commercials saying the campus is safe? tomorrow? Do you think they should have full page ads in the morning papers?

16. Hmmmm... I Don't Think I Said That.
I don't think I have said that it's perfectly fine for them to be worried about enrollment right now.

What I have said -- in fact, I have said it many times -- is that it is entirely inappropriate (and, frankly, tiresome) to speculate about what VPI might do.

I'll wait until I actually see ads from VPI on TV or in newspapers before I start commenting on what they say.

Right now, I think it is far more appropriate to focus concern and compassion on the students, faculty, and staff of VPI -- along with their friends and families.

17. Let's see if the university does that or if they focus on keeping tuition dollars.

9. Silly. It's this week's Anna Nicole.
Never mind that real, living people (like me for instance) spent hours trying to track down a child at Tech. (Not mine, a friend's)

It's a Rovian distraction.

14. No. It's not appropriate. We should wait until the families have put their loved ones to rest.
But people have the right to say stupid things at a time like this. I wish I didn't feel it.

15. i really am not inot bashing the school. this could happen anywhere, anytime
i dont like this mentality. instead i prefer to sit with them in the sadness, the understanding and eventually the healing of this time.

those that need to leave will. those that want to bring this to a higher, and can handle it will stay. i wish the school, the students, and the families .... well what? it is a time of pain. as simple as that.
