I'm going to say something positive about a Democratic candidate
I'm watching a C-SPAN rerun of Hillary Clinton in Iowa, from yesterday; she's speaking at a Town Hall Meeting at a high school. And I am incredibly impressed by her. She's so articulate and is speaking to the crowd so comfortably, with no pretense and very little political rhetoric. She's speaking directly to every question that's being asked, and she seems so unrehearsed. And it's obvious how well educated she is about so many issues.

I'm just very impressed.

So there.

I remember seeing it in interviews with Pres Clinton when his autobiography came out.

5. LOL while she is not my top choice, I would support her.
But I much more favor Richardson, Edwards and a few others. I suspect that Obama's star will begin to fade slowly, as his newness wears off. Then again, he is so fresh and new and uninfected with Inside the Bloatwayisms that others have (Biden's and Dodd's biggest Achilles heels) that he may continue to grow. It really depends on him and his stumping abilities.

4. I have to admit,
I was pleasantly surprised, and I'm happy for her. We'll see what happens from here. :)

6. Maybe it will start a trend ...

DU'ers actually focusing on the positives of the individual Democratic candidates!! I like that idea better than this place reading like Freeperville.

17. I was hoping it would...
But I think it's going to get much, much worse here. If I recall from 2004. Ugh. The mods did the best they could, but people get so riled up, then add in the various trolls and hit-and-run posters, and the "my candidate is the only one who doesn't suck" people, and it will get very bloody.

and he is stumbling through rehearsed jokes. No substance, just a series of anecdotes. About snow. Really.

Edited to add, after leaving him on for a few too many minutes: He's awful. Horrible. Not saying a single thing of substance. His message is that the country is strong and that we have to be optimistic. WTF?? He's going on about the terrorists being at war with us (duh) and that we should root for a successful outcome in Iraq (duh). He's pathetic!

10. Not specifically, but there was a question from a veteran...
about veterans' rights, and she talked about ensuring that we have the support system at home that we will need when the troops come back.

12. I need to verify this, but I understand she wasn't "taking" questions on Iraq.
Wasn't it supposed to be a "town meeting"? I only saw the start of it...C-span cut from the march in DC for LIVE coverage...

13. It's already creeping in...
but you know, I tried to watch it with an open mind, and I haven't gotten behind a particular candidate yet. I'd like to listen to all of the candidates and then decide who I want to work for in the primaries.

In my son's 4th grade leadership election last year, the candidates all had to write a speech, which the teacher read in front of the class. His thinking was that this would make it less of a popularity contest and more a of a vote on substance. I thought that was a great idea.

We're a broad party and there are so many different perspectives about candidates -- people have their pet issues, and they would never vote for a candidate if they didn't support their stance on that issue -- no doubt this board will be bloodied by the battles as the election draws closer. At this point though I'm just trying to keep an open mind.

And OMG, I've left Rudy on the TV and he just SUCKS. He's blathering about how we need to be "optimistic" and he really just said that "you have a lot more fun when you're an optimist!"

15. Is this the townhall meeting where she refused to talk about Iraq *at all*?
By far the biggest single issue of the last few years and the next few?

16. Ah, I do recall that question
He did specifically asked her if she thought 21000 troops was enough, and she did divert the question to one about veteran's services. To be fair, his question was awkwardly posed, but I can see now that she avoided the "surge" question -- so deftly, I hardly noticed! And based on the rest of what I saw, she wasn't asked specifically again about Iraq.
