Interracial couple denied marriage license in Tangipahoa Parish
A Louisiana justice of the peace said he refused to issue a marriage license to an interracial couple out of concern for any children the couple might have.

'My main concern is for the children,' said Keith Bardwell, justice of the peace in Tangipahoa Parish.

Keith Bardwell, justice of the peace in Tangipahoa Parish, says it is his experience that most interracial marriages do not last long.

"I'm not a racist. I just don't believe in mixing the races that way," Bardwell told the Associated Press on Thursday. "I have piles and piles of black friends. They come to my home, I marry them, they use my bathroom. I treat them just like everyone else."

NOTE: Hyea. "he treats them just like everyone else" EXCEPT - he DOESN'T...

Bardwell said he asks everyone who calls about marriage if they are a mixed race couple. If they are, he does not marry them, he said.

1. Unbelievable
This is 2009, not 1949.

What is he afraid of - that the kids might grow up to be Democratic Presidents, or something?

12. Correct. They started that over 200 years ago.
Bardwell is a little late in his concern. I haven't found any enslaved yet in my husband's ancestry. His folk arrived here from the West Indies, free and mixed circa 1800.

At a point in our history, it was noted that the baptisms outnumbered the marriages by about 1000 to 1. Well, my figures may be exaggerated because I can't remember the exact number. This was the result of criminalizing interracial marriages.

4. Oh brother
From the linked article: Bardwell said he has discussed the topic with black people and white people, along with witnessing some interracial marriages. He came to the conclusion that most of black society does not readily accept offspring of such relationships, and neither does white society, he said.

If I'm not mistaken, the "offspring of such relationships" is currently President of the United States. Apparently this racist freak needs to advance to the 21st century.

6. Years ago, I had a conversation with the sister of one of my clients.
My client was a black man who had been married to a white woman and the now divorced couple were involved in a custody dispute over their daughter. My client's sister said something to me that has stuck with me for years. She said that with even just a bit of "black blood" (her words), both blacks and whites see a bi-racial child as a black child.

That was stated to me about 25 years ago and to this day, I have never seen an exception to that rule. So I say "bullshit" to that JP. Only a bigot that that POS who refused to issue the license would have a problem accepting a child that was other than racially pure. And I am betting he has problems accepting anyone, child or adult, who is not pure white.

What a fucking asshole. :puke:

White people..be scared...there won't any more of you left. He was white and said that to a majority white class. I was one of two black students. He also is a Libertarian. Also keep in mind this was a Masters level class.

10. so the kids will be better off if mom and dad are not married?
It's not like the people will stop having sex because they cannot get married. They will just live together, have kids and the like without marrying. Also can't the couple take this to the supreme court and get it overturned?
