Killer had railed against "rich kids," "debauchery" and "deceitful charlatans"

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - The gunman suspected of carrying out the Virginia Tech massacre that left 33 people dead was identified Tuesday as an English major whose creative writing was so disturbing that he was referred to the school's counseling service.

News reports also said that he may have been taking medication for depression, that he was becoming increasingly violent and erratic, and that he left a note in his dorm in which he railed against "rich kids," "debauchery" and "deceitful charlatans" on campus.

Cho Seung-Hui, a 23-year-old senior, arrived in the United States as boy from South Korea in 1992 and was raised in suburban Washington, D.C., officials said. He was living on campus in a different dorm from the one where Monday's bloodbath began.

Police and university officials offered no clues as to exactly what set him off on the deadliest shooting rampage in modern U.S. history.

"He was a loner, and we're having difficulty finding information about him," school spokesman Larry Hincker said.

2. mentally ill loner
... that seems to fit in with the profile of the kids at Columbine. You can't kill dozens of people without some serious deliberation, it wasn't as much a case of somebody gets angry and takes their hunting rifle to school, which is the more common scenario.

College can be a lonely place, even more than highschool. As I said in another post, there's alot of poeple there now days who simply do not belong there. They are there because college is their only hope of a middle-class lifestyle.

I don't think anti-depressants were directly responsible. But he may have had alot of anxiety, and it's possible that the anti-depressants made it worse. Men who get depressed also often seem to have alot of anxiety going with it.

6. The Columbine kids didn't necessarily want to be loners, they were BULLIED
And we all know (finally) what happens when a bullied kid snaps.

On another note, these new mood drugs scare the bejeebus out of me. "Some people" claim that Marijuana changes brain chemistry and structure, but it seems OK if prescription drugs do it.

Take your Ritalin and Prozac kids, and don't do drugs!

12. were they bullied because they were loners?
Face it, the guys in the Columbine Massacre weren't normal. A Jewish kid that idolizes Hitler has some deep issues.

I don't think Columbine was caused by overt bullying. It was just Harris and Kliebold giving a big middle finger to the world and trying to achieve fame and meaning in death that they would never have in life. Rejection also probably played a role... Harris had a minor bone deformity (pectus excavatum) and depression, which kept him out of the military, something he really looked forward to doing. If these guys hadn't shot up the school, both of them would probably be flipping burgers some place by now, in a dead end job, and nobody would know their names.

5. What? Rich kids? I thought that rich kids didn't go to college and universities
because they're hotbeds of rampant liberalism ... what with easy sex and booze and all them damn liberal professors filling their heads with that socialist crap ...

7. deceitful charlatans?
The first bullet should have gone in his head. If the bastard wanted to commit suicide, he could have gone right ahead and he'd have had all our sympathy...of course we'd never know what evil he was really capable of. That makes him the most deceitful of all...using a hard life due to immigration, poverty and depression as a mask to conceal evil intent. Certainly the animal lover he murdered wasn't a deceitful charlatan? Nor the others who had volunteered to do good? Was the holocaust survivor a deceitful charlatan? The next time someone wants to go on a rampage against 'deceitful charlatans' I hope they do the rest of us a favor and just blow their own brains out...

9. When used improperly or when the patient removes themselves from
the prescribed dose.

Your statement is kind of a sweeping generalization.

10. A 'sweeping" generalization?
That's a bit far fetched. I said they've been known to bring on this type of behavior, that's more of a limited statement.

I take it you're on anti-depressants?
