The human circle around the Capitol was completed:
Edited on Sun Jan-28-07 10:18 PM by babylonsister

And this is what I saw for the next hour and a half, coming down Capitol Hill. THIS gives me pride in my country:

And when I was walking towards 'home' up the hill, looking down on all the beautiful peace-loving people who went out of their way to try to make a difference, this stood out:

6. Hundres of Thousands?

I just watched the Sunday news program, Face the Nation, and he said 'Hundreds of thousands' of protesters. I wasn't sure I heard it right and played it again. Everywhere else I've read so far said 'tens of thousands'. I hope Sheifer didn't misspeak! That is awsome!

9. I've heard about 500,000 people. Friends I was with thought it was bigger than
the 05 protest. Regardless, Schieffer was more honest than others; there were loads of people, though I don't know who might have an 'official' estimate. The pictures, from everyone, tell the story. The place was packed.

11. nice pics!
I thought before noon that there were less people than Sept. 05, but then we were surrounded. Standing in front of the Capitol and watching the march which went on forever! In the Sept. march the route was more clear and we walked all of it. This one made no sense to me but it did allow me to get a better feel for the size of the crowd. It freaked me out a bit when that mob of people ran up the capitol steps and all those cops began arriving. I thought for sure things would get out of hand. If this war continues I believe the protests will get a lot more raucus.

16. I had no idea mobs were charging the Capitol. There was so
much going on, my biggest challenge was where to look first. It's great there were so many eyes out there so we all benefit.

12. Was this the first time in recent years that the Capitol was circled?
I just heard a caller on Air America say that it was the first time the Capitol was circled, so it is the largest protest so far.

True?

15. I honestly don't know if there's been a protest at the Capitol in
recent years. This one was directed at Congress; others may have been targeted at *.

22. 2005 went past the White House, a longer distance, hard to judge.
But it seemed like lots more people this time.

Not as many as NYC February 15, 2002 though. That was massive. But definately a good show though the media is downplaying the numbers as they always do. The helicopters that were monitoring have the scoop Bushco knows how many people were there and can extrapolate how many others who were unable to make it were represented.

21. Awesome and thanks for posting this!
I just called my 11 yr. old to look at this and it reminded him of when he and I were there in Sept. (he was 9 at the time). He really wanted to attend this time, but I had to take his older brother to Knoxville to participate in a jazz clinic, and his Dad came up with many reasons to not go.

I think there's another march planned in June, and I've told him we'll try REALLY hard to attend!

Thanks again!!!
