My 88 year old father wanted to march on Washington

He has heart problems and uses a walker but he wanted to go to DC to protest the war. He told me it just makes him totally sick to see all the death and carnage for no reason at all. He calls Bush the "fuhrer".

He is a Holocaust survivor- he told me that after the war, he really thought that people would be so horrified by what happened and by how many people died, not only in the camps but in the war, that there would actually really be peace.

Of course, his hopes were shattered rather quickly. But he is just so upset by this war and by Bush- I wish he could have gone.

If need be, I am sure later this year there will be another march, DU could take up a fund to rent an electric wheelchair for your dad. I saw many whellchairs there, he would be welcome, and in good company.

2. A friend of mine from Romania told me he was scared

He was telling me "You young Americans, I hear you saying how things are here, and I was here during the rise of Ceaucescu..." I was expecting to hear "you don't know nothing about it, this is no big deal" next. Instead, he said "... and this scares the hell out of me, what's happening here is just like what was happening there, and people here don't seem to notice!"

I also have friends who were around during the rise of the You Know Who's in Germany. They seem much more lighthearted these days, realizing that Goldhagen was wrong and what happened there really can happen anywhere.

4. A friend from China told me he's afraid

because the whole religious angle and the fact that there are so many lunatics who actually worship their little tin Jesus in the White House reminds him of the cult of personality that immediately preceded the Cultural Revolution, something he survived but lost precious years of education to.

All sorts of people from all sorts of totalitarian systems are all too aware of what this bunch is really up to.

3. In spite of how tight and crowded it was in the streets of Washington

I noticed real courtesy and inclusion to the people in wheelchairs. I was glad to see they braved it and came anyway.K& R for your Dad

5. My 78-yr old dad's 80-yr old girlfriend sent me a check for $50

because she wanted to go but felt she was too old. I saw old, young, middle-aged, every spectrum of income, people in wheelchairs, etc.
I hope you show your dad the pictures from yesterday, and perhaps encourage him that it's not as bleak as it has been. And it's about to get better because the truth is about to be released.

old father died in July not knowing what would come of all this. I hope your father can see the end of this shit and the return of the Old Republic. God bless him and his generation. They are well and truly my heroes.
