6. It's pretty modest, actually.
Edited on Sun Jan-28-07 10:43 PM by Clark2008
It's in a REAL neighborhood - down the road from a Target, a 7/11 and a bookstore! It's probably, I'm guessing, about 3,600 square feet (my house is 2,400, so I'm doing a guesstimate based on that). It's gray brick, if I remember correctly, and has columns. It's very upper middle class.

I know you were making a funny, but I wanted to go ahead and let folks know that his house isn't gi-normous or anything.

:)

7. He lived in a trailer most of the time while in the Military
I doubt if he cut down 50,000 trees for his present house.

It's a fair question though.

17. 50,000 trees= 10,000,000 board foot of lumber
Edited on Mon Jan-29-07 12:53 AM by LibFromWV
Are your calculations correct? Just an average but still. 50,000. Most mills only produce that much in a year. 50000 trees are you sure?
edit: I mean really visualize 50000 trees stacked up are you really suggesting edwards house used 50000 trees?

18. Not for his house. They cleared out a huge area around the house
for a yard. The exact number that has been posted here on DU is 48,853 trees.

Here is a photo:

20. Hmm dense tree growth comes to
Edited on Mon Jan-29-07 01:48 AM by LibFromWV
about 300-400 trees per acre. 102 acres makes that about 35000 trees. From the picture it is mostly scrub pine. so the new scandal is what happened to the other 15000 trees? And if i see the photo correct not all the trees have been cleared. But according to freek republic all the trees were devastated and clear cut. Am i missing something?

And by the way there can't be more than 15 acres in that picture. Maybe there is more forrest that is not being shown ?

23. You make a good point
Edited on Mon Jan-29-07 02:20 AM by Quixote1818
I wouldn't know how to crunch the exact numbers. There is probably about one tree every three feet. It looks pretty dense. 1 acre = 43560 square feet = 4047 sq meters. Wouldn't that mean aprox. 4047 trees per acre? I don't know how many acres were cleared. To total 50,000 trees you would need to clear at least 12 acres???

Not sure if I did that right.

On Edit: Good Fruit Grower Magazine :: Pollination and thinning
In the 1960s, average tree density was about 200. Today, most growers are planting between 600 and 2000 trees per acre, but some are using as many as 5000. ...
www.goodfruit.com/issues.php?article=978&issue=33 - Similar pages

This means a dense forest would have about 5,000 trees per acre.

28. I don't think
it could sustain full growth trees at 4000 per acre. Thesite i looked at was US Geological for the NC area.

22. I love an excuse to post this endorsement, thanks!

"Just when the world is being dragged into the death spiral of an unending cycle of violence by a vision-less, coldblooded collection of think-tank warriors goose-stepping their way into the new millennium with a stunning lack of respect for human rights, the environment, or international law, along comes a man with the proven credentials of intelligence, integrity, and courage singularly equipped by his spirit and experience to lead us out of this mess. Don't listen to what the lying liars say about him; listen to what he says. Wesley Clark is a prayer answered."

26. :) His days on DU are numbered. The maniacal mob is done with Clinton and Obama..
... and appears to be almost done with Edwards.

Clark's ticket is sure to be punched soon - probably just have to wait for the first republican hit-piece on him to come out in the MSM. DU will take it from there.

27. Of course, DU has 100,000 members with all kind of opinions
We are going to debate every candidate and every candidate will be praised and attacked. When Clark gets attacked I will defend him if I disagree with the criticism but I won't complain he is being unfairly treated.
