That would be one more crime on the list. Contempt of congress even.

3. I think the "AG" just threatened a US Senator.
I would ask him when he returns, if he returns, "or what?"

4. I'd say Durbin's explosive comeback was PERFECT! "That's like telling me if I speak out against the
war, I'm not supporting the soldiers."

That sounded like a THREAT by Gonzo. The man needs to GO!

It's about you and your handling of the department...or something like that...

11. This is precisely what happened as the Third Reich grew from a handful to totalitarian.
This administration has got to be held accountable for crimes against humanity, treason, war profiteering, and AGAG needs to be indicted NOW.

"Be careful about criticizing the Department." Or what?

16. Exactly - the real Gonzales came through in that threat
We are talking about fascism here, folks. In other words, Gonzo was telling a U.S. Senator that there are consequences for criticizing his "justice" department.

12. Of course it was threat to my great Senator Durbin.
He's up for re-election in 2008.

It'll be very interesting to see who the Goopers come up with to run against him. I'm thinking the Milk Nazi, Oberweis, might get the call this time around. He's got his own money and he's a real Reich Winger.

had to explain to him why he will never eat there again.:) He went there with some friends not knowing that Oberweis is forbidden in our home. He knows now.:7 Maybe Topenka will run against Durbin? I'm going to work on his campaign. I love the guy. I didn't realize he's up for re-election in '08 though!

She got hammered by Blago last November and Dick Durbin is a hell of lot more popular in the State of Illinois than Blago is.

43. Who Else Is There?
Most candidates either are too fringe or have lost big in statewide elections. The cupboard is pretty bare.

I'd love for the Milk Nazi (love that name) to run...drain a bunch of his money and then watch him get thumped in November.

IMHO, Durbin is also Democratic Party leadership...I think Gonzo's shot was taken in that direction.

Cheers...

Not just the AGs, all the Justice staff has been replaced with Bushies.

So I would say the Justice department is a reflection of Gonzo.

28. I was listening to it on NPR and although the quote is true,
in context, I took the statement differently. He continued with something like, "Criticize me. I'm taking resposibility...etc". It certainly didn't seem like a blatant threat but perhaps it was a thinly veiled one.

They are really frying him today. Some of the best radio I've heard in my whole life. I can't wait for round two!

the tensions will be even higher-Senator Leahy is going to do something AGAG et al can't prevent now that all this mornings lies have been entered.

44. Maybe he will be locked out of "his" Department's office as evidence is gathered by DoJ
National Security Division/NSD employees. A lot of people are unaware of this new DoJ organ-maybe that was implied in the threat.

Another sidebar Kyle Sampson's career move into this criminal administration was helped by his old law school pal Elizabeth CHENEY

36. More of this administration's modus operandi
Remember that the press secretary (Fleischer I think it was) said that White House reporters should be careful about what they write, because those articles "have been noted in this building." Later, I think it was McClellan, flat out said that reporters should watch what they write. This administration often falls back on veiled and not-so-veiled threats when they're being called to account. When challenged, they lie and say that they're just protecting the troops, or fighting for national security, or some other such dodge, but both sides know that a threat was issued and received. How the threatened party reacts, however, might change when his name is preceded by "Senator."

Oh, and Mr. Gonzales? It's the Senate's constitutional duty to advise and consent to the appointment of U.S. Attorneys. Perhaps the constitution is another "quaint" document in your mind, but believe me, a lot of citizens would disagree with you.

Not knowing what this is, I googled it and found:
Agag, king of the Amelikites
Africa Grantmakers Affinity Group
As Good As Gold
Algebraic Geometry and Algebraic Groups--a conference at a Danish university
The Agag gerbil
Ah, there it is, halfway down the google's second page, "Attorney General Alberto Gonzales." Now I finally know what you're talking about.

46. This apparatchik did issue a thinly veiled threat to Sen. Durbin
then had a meeting with Sen. Specter during the lunch break.

The threat came out as an overreaction to the very obvious extreme dedication of every loyal Bushie to keeping Karl Rove and the White House political operatives protected.

These are fascists and criminals that are under the influence of some type of evil cultish fear that most of US are now immune to.

Since their tactics and techniques don't work on US anymore they threaten US Senators.

That's my take on this extraordinary exchange.
