Father Robert Drinan, catholic priest who served in congress dead.

I just heard this on CSPAN. He filed impeachment charges against Richard Nixon. He served 10 years in congress and I recall the pope told him not to run for reelection because the pope did not want any Catholic priests to serve in congress.

1. He was also a leading figure in the anti-war movement during Vietnam.
I had the honor of serving as an Intern in his DC Office during college.

A good and great man.

2. Senator Kerry's response
"Father Drinan was a forever gentle, resilient, tenacious advocate for social justice and fundamental decency," said Senator John F. Kerry, who was Father Drinan's campaign manager in 1970. "He lived out in public life the whole cloth of Catholic teachings. In the most divisive days of Vietnam when things were coming apart, this incredible man and most unlikely of candidates showed America how a man of faith could be a man of peace."

3. Very sad....I remember those days when the Catholic Church was
very much involved with progressive issues like anti-war and liberation politics. Fr. Drinan and the Berringan brothers were powerful leaders in the 70's. Saw them speak many times.

I still think the there was a deliberate RW campaign to nuetralize the Church soon after Bush got selected, to put them on the sidelines when the war got underway. Pretty effective job, IMHO.
