Afghanistan: Our Poor fighting their Poor.
http://www.correctionsone.com/corrections/articles/1967983-US-could-release-up-to-700-detainees-in-Afghanistan/

Brig. Gen. Mark Martins told USA TODAY that 10% to 20% of the inmates at the U.S.-run prison in Bagram are considered hard-core, or "irreconcilable," Taliban fighters. The rest of them are candidates for eventual rehabilitation and release, he said.

"There are some of those caught up in this armed conflict who are ... accidental guerrillas," said Martins, who is overseeing a review of U.S. detainee policy here.

These are not ideologues and those who might be classified as ideologues are quite possibly more highly motivated by revenge for Family and/or Friends.

Thom Hartmann is saying we could win in Afghanistan with about $5.00 per day for about 80% of the "Taliban" and some pharmaceutical and other types of economic development.

8. Wouldn't it be great if there were 10 threads about Afghanistan?
Instead, there is only one thread about Afghanistan in the General Discussion forum, and that thread was just about to fall off the front page, even with two k&r's. Is there nothing to say? I would hope that if Obama is about to voice his position on the matter that Americans would be busy voicing their own position. But it seems we largely remain silent until our leaders speak.

9. And somewhere Mr. Burns rubs his hands together
Totes up another million dollars that he doesn't need and can never spend, and intones, "Excellent." In the background, some numbnuts congress critter yammers on about "freedom" and "the ultimate sacrifice" while the TV lights glint off his lapel flag pin.

12. It's very very hard to understand why more Americans don't admit what we'd do if WE were Invaded.
For whatever reasons, even if the U.S. were harboring persons whom ALL Americans agree are international CRIMINALS, if another country regarded that as justification for Invasion, most Americans would fight to the death and assure ALL future generations would do the same, even with little or nothing to use as weapons if that were the case.

Why would we consider that a good and holy thing for us, but not for Iraq or Afghanistan, except that somehow we have confused ourselves with "God". There is no other explanation that I can think of.
