PONTIAC – A family-owned business in Toronto that plans to host soccer teams is the new owner of the Pontiac Silverdome.
The sale price was listed as $583,000 minus commissions for the auctioneer and the public relations firm that advertised the sale.
Emergency City Financial Manager Fred Leeb told a group of reporters on Monday that he would not reveal the name of the winning bidder.
The Oakland Press has filed a Freedom of Information request for the name.
Leeb said the bidder planned to put both men’s professional and women’s soccer teams into the vacant stadium. Leeb also said the buyer currently does not own a team.
In the past few years, the city has passed on bids of $22 million, $18 million and — more recently — $17 million to purchase the Silverdome.
