A Word Of Caution to those Who Would Charge "Then Why Don't You Enlist?"

Many here on this board have served or are serving. Some of these people support the President's decision. And you would not know that they have unless they display one of the military ribbon avatars or have something in their sig. Others here who support the President already have family serving in Iraq or Afghanistan as well. Before you make this statement against anyone, you should stop and think, what if this person has served or is serving the country? Would you say this to that person's face. It's easy to be brave behind a keyboard.

What I ask is that tomorrow morning each and every one try to enlist in the service.

2. Gee-I don't think they'd let me enlist.

First, I'm 65 and kind of arthritic, and second, the old bullet holes from Vietnam somewhat impair my range of motion.

But then again, it may be a moot point since I don't really support the war either.

Because you don't support the war, yes, you're exempt. But since there are older Americans serving, then anyone who supports the escalation ought to try to enlist. It's time for them to pt up or shut up. It's what we expected from Bush supporters.

3. I really hate it when people use that argument. It's just so meaningless.

If any citizen believes that a particular military action is in our best national interests, it is FINE to say so, whether they have "skin in the game" or not--and very few Americans actually do anyway. Not everyone who thinks Obama may prove to be right about Afghanistan is a chickenhawk who loves war for the sake of war.

4. I'm a vet and have family who servied in Afghanistan. I think its a fair question.

Most of the politicians, Republicans and Democrats, now supporting Obama's escalation haven't been cannon-fodder but are willing to provide it for another lost war to show they're "tough". How "brave" is that?

...if consideration results in complacency and maintains a harmful status quo. Anyone who IS in the military can simply respond that they are-- everyone else who supports illegal and immoral wars SHOULD be challenged to explain why they want to see other people's sons, daughters, husbands, and wives die to feed their smug satisfaction with the "war president."
