Sometimes the Best of Intentions Make The Worst of Decisions During Wartime...
American lives, treasure, and power in the world, are indispensible to influencing and persuading others to change their behavior and improve the lives of their citizens.

There is not enough $$ in the world to 'nation-build' all the despicable regimes of the world, even though we feel for victims living under such dictators.

Sending in more troops, material, and spending millions to do it, won't substantially change Afghanistan because of the tribal structure and inherent corruption of those in power.

It sure sounds like we are thinking with our hearts more than our heads by sending in more troops, and in the process we may weaken our position on the world economic and political stages.

1. Sounds more like you don't understand what our troops do and our goal for
the coming few years there.

Try reading up on it a bit and then we can have a discussion.

while the oil companies build the pipeline across the country.

I hope you don't actually think we're over there "spreading democracy."

You can wrap it in all the pretty rationales that you want, but at the end of the day we're over there to push Pax Americana, and nothing less.

7. Since you have such a clear understanding of our mission why not send it to Obama ASAP
Edited on Tue Dec-01-09 05:20 PM by Blackhatjack
I understand exactly WHAT the troops are doing in Afghanistan. Do YOU understand WHY they are there?

Even the so-called military advisors cannot agree on what constitutes 'winning' and when it will be time to bring the troops home.

But if you have the answers to those questions, Chris Matthews and other TV Pundits will undoubtedly book you right away. In that case I will just sit back and listen to you....

10. Pompous crap
Why don't you educate us on the goal in Afghanistan and the likelihood of achieving that goal? Many veterans of the Viet Nam debacle would be interested in being educated on the subject of what our troops do and our goals for the coming years. Perhaps your expertise in occupational-force objectives would make that Chinese iron in my leg stop annoying me in inclement weather.

Perhaps we should try setting up some "protective hamlets" to keep the "good" Afghanis safe.

BTW, Plaid Adder has some very respectable credentials on this board and in the liberal community at large. She's been fighting the good fight here for years. You haven't exactly established a reputation, now have you?
