Where are our thinkers!!!!
Come on I get it War is bad but where is the thought as to the political outcome. I think that we at DU are so emotional over issues that we stop thinking. This is an issue that we can't win. Damn id you do damn if you don't BUT no one here is looking at the political blow back of Obama just walking up saying "The party is over we are going home". The right will scream weak, the left will cheer but we would be open to the classic left right war BS during the health care debates when the focus needs to be on reforming. Look it, I hate this too but what is the political alternative? I want to see post on that question not how much you hate this or another war but the REAL political alternatives.

1. I agree
I don't care for the over the top hysteria from both ends - the war escalation does disgust me but I am willing to listen to what Obama has to say and I will still support the troops as I have done for years

FUCK POLITICS AND THE HORSE IT RODE IN ON.

How many people is it OK to kill for political gain? How many lives is it OK to destroy? How much suffering and human misery is justified?

This is the LAMEST, most SELFISH justification for war imaginable. Bush started wars for politics.

6. not sure I understand the relevance....
Were either of those wars started or prolonged to avoid political blowback? Simply to advance some politician's career? To consolidate political power? If so, then yes, I'd say they were completely immoral.

War can be just. But war to advance political careers? Killing innocent people, destroying nations? For POLITICS?

That is utterly fucked up. FUBAR.

This is what I mean. I don't like war but we can't just walk out. What would you say we do.

8. admit our mistake and walk away-- THAT is what courageous people do...
Edited on Tue Dec-01-09 08:08 PM by mike_c
...when they screw up. And I don't mean just abandon Afghanistan. God knows we owe them reparations and any help we can give them-- and that they want-- but continuing the war so that Barak Obama can avoid being called names by republicans is so unbelievably WRONG that I cannot believe anyone would actually suggest it with a straight face. When we make mistakes we face the consequences.

I hope you're sending your kids to die to help make Obama look good.

.... that Americans don't back this war. Your entire analysis is void. Some thinker, another who wants to submit to the right wing noise machine.

No matter what Obama does, they will scream like banshees. Get a clue.

10. So we should stay because of politics?
We don't want to look bad so keep on killing people and sacrificing our troops for political reasons. Please go join the military so you can help the politics even more.
