And for all of you yelling ... just like bush with 911....

REMEMBER...Bush perverted the tragedy of 911 to go into Iraq and continued to use it to justify continuing that war while turning a blind eye to Afghanistan.

As a result of ignoring Afghanistan, Al Q moved into Pakistan, an unstable nation with nuclear weapons and a volatile relationship with India...

This is a difficult mess that he has to deal with. This was not a rah rah moment for him. He is making a tough decision based upon a careful review and despite the fact that it could cost him. I for one, respect him for that.

Flame away as I know you will... but after you are done, I suggest that you do a little bit of reading about the region to try to get an understanding of what this man has to deal with, not only at home, but abroad as like it or not, the US is the leader of the world and we F'd up the world over the last 8 years.

We have an adult in charge now. I voted for him for this reason. Making the tough choices no matter what the personal cost.

8. all the way back, but also, you might want to focus on at least the last 8 years
and the absolute fing mess Bush made out of that region! If Bush would have done it right from the beginning, we would have been out of there already and Bin Laden would have been brought to justice. I'm sorry, but you need to wake up.

19. I served. As an historian, I am also familiar with the history.
Do I pass?

I think I'll wait and see what the actual 'withdrawal plan' is, rather than a speech soundbite recommended by a TV commentator, which is not an indictment of Richard Wolfe. Just a desire to see what ". . . taking into account conditions on the ground . . ." means in the larger scheme of things.

17. I think so too. And Howard Fineman's remarks about giving the military what it wants now, makes sens
Give them what they want, fulfill the campaign promise, perhaps even finish something (however corrupt) that Bush failed to do, and then get the hell out. Because it's not going to work.

I think he knows it isn't going to work. But I think he knows that the way politics works means that he absolutely must follow through with what he says, or be crushed by the distorted megaphone media and right wing politicians.

20. Maybe
But how many of those will be withdrawn in flag draped caskets, before the last US soldier leaves?

I keep hearing how tough it is for the President, but like Bush it isn't his ass getting shot, he isn't the one who gets to bury a husband, wife, son, daughter, grandmother or grandfather!!!

A careful review provided by a general who already has a history of lying and advocating the torture of prisoners, another general who never saw combat until the invasion of Iraq but all of sudden is some kind of expert on fighting insurgents, and a left over SecDef who may or may not be loyal to the current administration, especially when you consider that lately the Pentagon leaks more then Spongebob!

You talk about the cost to him, what about the cost of those who will lose their lives. His cost is purely political, and it doesn't even come close to what the families of those deployed will pay.

This wasn't the hard decision, the hard decision would be to bring the troops home, before more blood and treasure is wasted on an already corrupt government, both in Afghanistan and Pakistan. This was the easy decision for him, in his hope to bring us all together for another 9/11 hand holding moment, which wasn't!!!
