Ringing through my head as the supposed clarions call.
It's all such bullshit. The drawdown COULD NOT happen tomorrow, regardless of my wishes that it could. Take a dose of reality, please my brethren. I can't even look at the images marked graphic. I wake up in cold sweat every time I do, and I grieve for our children in uniform that they witness such horror. But it will not be finished tomorrow, and it's irresponsible to think that an immediate drawdown (or whatever fancy militaristic term you want to coin) will result in anything more responsible. We'll all clamor, "how can you ask anyone to be the last to die for a mistake?" but there will always be a last, and a first. That bell has been struck, and now it's left to the dude we agreed would be our leader to decide who that last will be. You really want that call to be on your shoulders? You think you'll make a decision that's above reproach?
We're splitting hairs, with each hair a human life or ten. You think the magnitude of that is lost on our guy (compared to the idiot son before him)? I count my tanks every day that we have a competent and compassionate individual making those decisions today instead of the egotistical megalomaniacal son of a bitch sociopath we had a year ago. Yet I log in tonight to read jeers and eye-pokes at the guy I voted for.
Have we so quickly forgotten and forgone the power of our vote? Have my brothers and sisters really turned on the one we (as a party, DU, as a party) chose so easily? Yes, we demand the best, and when our leaders fall short, we call them on it. And we should. But also, let us not lose sight of the alternate reality that so easily could be realized. With an eye toward what could be, we live in what is. It is so easy to say, "I'd just bring them all home now, consequences be damned," but no situation is that simple.
How many times have you tried to extricate yourself from a single relationship and had it result in disaster? Now imagine that your life is on the line. Now imagine that THOUSANDS of lives are on the line. Do you REALLY think that a simple, "remove everyone and see what happens" strategy would work, without throwing the complicated issue of religion into the mix?
Complex issues require iteration, review, ebb and flow. Lives are on the line (more than just US lives), which means that we have to get it right. Honestly, I'm sick of the arm-chair quarterbacking of those that would argue about that decision when the weight of those lives do not rest on their shoulders. I'm not saying that I agree with our President's approach, but he is owning his decision: good, bad, or otherwise.
But no, he can't be MY president, right? MY president is perfect and agrees with me all the time. He follows my simple analysis and disregards all the shit I've never thought about during my deep, whiskey-soaked, deluges of elegant prose. Let's show our "rebel colours" by calling him "Mr." instead of "President." Fuck that. Own up, you pussies. Our guy has more guts in his let hand than you have and you know. Quit thinking you're all bad cuz you name call. While the former occupier made simple "gut" calls in ignorance, our President makes his decisions with the full weight of their impacts on his mind. And you have the gall to degrade that?
Girl, you have no faith in medicine. Own your vote bitches. I do, and I love it. KJ
