1. I felt safer on 9/11.
I am not a fearful person. But, no, these wars make me feel like I live in a hated nation.

3. We've killed a shit-load of people, ostensibly, to keep our fat, frightened, American, asses "safe"
Does anyone, beside delusional republicans, actually believe it? What are we doing? What happened to this country?

22. What happened to this country?
Dialog from the film, Easy Rider:

George Hanson: You know, this used to be a helluva good country. I can't understand what's gone wrong with it.

Billy: Man, everybody got chicken, that's what happened. Hey, we can't even get into like, a second-rate hotel, I mean, a second-rate motel, you dig? They think we're gonna cut their throat or somethin'. They're scared, man.

George Hanson: They're not scared of you. They're scared of what you represent to 'em.

Billy: Hey, man. All we represent to them, man, is somebody who needs a haircut.

George Hanson: Oh, no. What you represent to them is freedom.

Billy: What the hell is wrong with freedom? That's what it's all about.

George Hanson: Oh, yeah, that's right. That's what's it's all about, all right. But talkin' about it and bein' it, that's two different things. I mean, it's real hard to be free when you are bought and sold in the marketplace. Of course, don't ever tell anybody that they're not free, 'cause then they're gonna get real busy killin' and maimin' to prove to you that they are. Oh, yeah, they're gonna talk to you, and talk to you, and talk to you about individual freedom. But they see a free individual, it's gonna scare 'em.

Billy: Well, it don't make 'em runnin' scared.

George Hanson: No, it makes 'em dangerous

21. Great point
The longer this continues, the more hated the US becomes. Afghanistan was always where the battle should have been fought, but as you noted, we are too late. This cannot be "won" militarily. Diplomatic and political solutions should be sought.

5. You know what would make me feel safer? (if I was even worried about it at all)
Take the total number of US border miles (19,973 according to Wiki), and divide it by the total number of troops we have in the Middle East. How far apart would they be standing to guard this country? If I was afraid at all; this would make a lot more sense to me.

People who like to talk about how this war is making it safer for their children make no sense to me.

Oil and money...that's the bottom line; always has been, always will be when it comes to the ME.

7. Hell no. If anything, it creates a feeling of insecurity knowing that there
are extremely pissed off people out there whose loved ones we've slaughtered. Instead of using the tremendous resources of this country to do something positive, we waste them on weapons and a massive killing machine. It is, indeed, a nightmare.

14. Do you ever wonder
what would happen if we just did NOT use war at all? If we just said to hell with it, we're peaceful, we're going to remain peaceful and we won't participate in this mess? Who can fight a nation that won't fight back?

How many times has Canada been attacked?

Like the poster said above, what if we spent our money and efforts to keep our people safe right here at home? Wouldn't that make more sense?

I'm a dreamer. I can't do war.

16. Defense contractors promote the fallacy that if we didn't wage war, we'd be sieged by envious people
It is precisely like Orwell's 1984.

19. Defense contractors are the single most useless, wasteful
big businesses in the US. The warmongers at the pentagon dream up expensive complicated weapons that have no chance of ever working, and the contractors pretend for many years that they can make them a reality. Then, when they admit they can't, and the spigot is finally turned off, they simply go on to something else. We have very little to show for the billions wasted and these frauds continually get away with it. It's a giant scam.

9. That IS the bottom line, isn't it?
I firmly believe that all these wars have done is create more hate and violence, and increased the likelyhood that we will be attacked again.
