Actress Meredith Baxter reveals she is a lesbian

Meredith Baxter, who played mother Elyse Keaton on the 1980s TV series "Family Ties," has revealed that she is a lesbian.

"I am a lesbian, and it was a later-in-life recognition of that fact," the 62-year-old actress said in an interview Wednesday on NBC's "Today" show.

Baxter said she has been in a relationship with her girlfriend, a general contractor, for four years.

I've known quite a few who didn't come out until later in life, after they'd done the marriage and children bit. It seems to be a fairly common pattern, probably coinciding with the loss of estrogen pushing women who were likely bisexual toward the lesbian end of the sexual spectrum.

I thought she was only capable of doing light weight roles until I saw that made for TV movie based on the true story of the attorney's wife who drove her car through her ex's front door.

She did a great job in that movie, you could really feel her anger, frustration, and resentment.

Broderick's husband was a real jerk to her. I can see why she went off the deep end. It's tragic that the kids had to suffer so much, the parents should have put the kids first and if they had, I'll bet things would have turned out differently.
