Chase Bank - Service charges on credit cards |
|
I highly recommend everyone scrutinize your accounts with a fine tooth comb. I was just charged for something I did not authorize and then charged for an overdraft charge. It is unbelievable how these companies can rape you. They play the numbers on how many Americans don't pay attention to their statements. It is easy money for them on these nickel and dime charges. During these terrible economic times it is disgusting what they are doing.
I am more disgusted with myself that I deviated from the teachings of my parents that if you can't pay for it with cash you can't have it. My parents were cash and carry people. I thought they were foolish because they had very limited credit history and this affected their ability to purchase homes and cars. Now I know who the fool was. Cash and carry is the only way to go. Credit is a trap.
Chase bought out Washington Mutual and they decided to send out letters stating they could now charge new fees, and if you don't respond to some flimsy letter you are tacitly agreeing. No need to verbally approve new fees or approve in writing. This is bullshit. I am ranting because I am so furious.
Now more than ever comb through your statements.

1. Chase pulled a fast one on me, and that was the last. |

I cancelled. Thankfully, it was a little used card - Amazon.
I was with Home Savings, before they were bought by Washington Mutual. I disliked WaMu so much I changed to a different bank, and have been thankful ever since.

2. I closed a Chase & Citi accounts yesterday. |

Both account agents were pleasant until they asked why I wanted to close my account & I stated that I was no longer going to support "too big to fail" institutions. They both became downright belligerent while trying to talk me into keeping my accounts open. Interesting tactic, huh? Become belligerent & while asking the customer to stay with you. :eyes:

higher authority. I was told I could only complain in writing to a P.O. box. He basically told me it was legal to charge me $1300 a year for credit protection without new authorization from me in writing. I was charged $135 last year total and because I did not respond to a letter ( I never received) they took that as a tacit agreement to charge me monthly. He said their lawyers would not let them do it if it was not legal????

My sister was telling me last night that her bank sold her line of credit to another bank. She had a zero balance and didn't even know that her loan had been sold until she got the "Welcome Letter" from the new company. When she called to find out more about the company and to determine what account the letter was for, they tried to charged her a $25.00 fee for talking to her on the phone.
