Parents of a 10-week-old baby given ecstacy, escape jail.

(ABC - Australia)

Baby hospitalized; Parents escape jail.

A Victorian couple has escaped jail time after accidentally giving their 10-week-old daughter the drug ecstasy.

The Cairns Supreme Court heard the couple stored an ecstasy tablet in their daughter's medication for their own intended use, but accidentally administered it to the child in January.

The baby was hospitalised for two days after suffering seizures but has since made a full recovery.

Justice Stanley Jones sentenced the couple to six months jail but suspended the sentence immediately, taking into account the pain and anguish they have suffered.

How many years do you think they would have got in the States not to mention continuous coverage by the MSM?

1. I don't know but that baby
should have been removed from the home and the parents should have gone to prison. I don't gie a damn how remorseful they are. They suffered pain and anguish? Give me a fucking break!

2. "The baby ... has since made a full recovery"
No doubt the parents are just itching to give their child some more E?

3. Recovery has nothing to do with it
Parents who do not know the difference between ecstacy and thier own baby's meds should not be parents, period

7. No this one
And I don't know of any parent who has. But, it doesn't matter what I think, the judge has already decided. They'd go free here too, just like most child molesters and other abusers of children.

9. So if the baby was given a Metformin tablet ( an anti-diabetes drug)
which almost certainly would induce coma in a baby, your attitude would be the same?

11. Sure would
Parents are supposed to and should keep their meds away from their babies meds at all times. Should not even have them in the same room. I can not find in my heart or head any justification for giving a baby the wrong meds or adult medications.

14. OK.
What I was suggesting was in the States, MDMA (Ecstasy) is illegal, therefore the parents would be given the maximum sentence available, not withstanding the actual harm to the baby.

5. Why were the parents given ecstacy...
and did it help, or hinder the escape?

6. LOL
But ... I've heard too many stories of crying babies being given meds to 'calm' them down.

8. And isn't that a sad thing?
Never mind that babies are supposed to cry since that is their only means of communication.

12. Yes it is. People give a babis sleeping tablets
and they should be condemned. These parents were negligent, not intentionally abusive.
