Webb, Ben Nelson Vote for McCain Health Amendment
By Mike Lillis 12/3/09 4:27 PM

The Senate this afternoon killed a proposal, sponsored by Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), to return the Democrats’ health reform bill to the Finance Committee in order to restore more than $400 billion in projected Medicare expenses over the next decade. Because Democrats are relying on that money to offset much of the bill, McCain’s amendment would have effectively forced a do-over of the entire health reform debate.

The vote was a lop-sided 42 to 58 — well shy of the 60 supporters needed to pass the amendment. Democratic Sens. Jim Webb (Va.) and Ben Nelson (Neb.) joined every Republican in support of the measure.

McCain supporters said the “cuts” — which actually aren’t cuts in the traditional sense, but instead represent a slowing of projected growth — would result in seniors losing access to Medicare benefits. Safeguarding against that very occurrence, the Senate earlier approved another amendment, sponsored by Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.), mandating that there be no cuts in the traditional Medicare program. The Bennet amendment passed 100 to 0.

4. Never forget he was Reagan's Secretary of the Navy
He is a former republican. While we all love him for his stance on Iraq, he is from a reddish state, a military state, and he is ex-navy. He barely beat George "Macaca" Allen for Senate, something we can all be glad about because he probably would have been in the Presidential mix if he had won that election.

3. COBURN JUST SENT ME AN EMAIL
and I would like to know how in the devil he got my special email address. I always use gmail for stuff I consider spam and he didn't send it on that. He wants me to send an email to Reid and tell him we can't afford health care. I told him he and his a**hole republicans could stop sending me emails and that if it was something for big business or the corporate raiders he and his fellow republicans would s**t themselves trying to pass it.

I guess he wont' send me any more.

You knew Nelson was going to be against anything in the health care bill. I wonder if he is not going to run. A lot of the blue dirty dogs are saying they are not going to run for re-election. I guess they want to save face, cause the people that put them in aren't going to vote for them again..they probably wouldn't even win the primary.
