While I hold out hope FCC Chairman Grenochowski will try to roll back some of the damage of "deregulation", there's too much "synergy" or call it what is is...money...on the line here. The FCC has limited jurisdiction here as all they can do is approve the transfer of the company's TV licenses to a new entity...if Comcast wants to skirt that, they sell off those stations to a third party and there's little to stop the deal from moving forward.
The real authority here would be with the SEC and DOJ...and their history about cheerleading mergers is well known. They're the ones can or may hang-up any merger, but in the end will determine this to be in the "best interests" of the public (after millions have been put in legislator's coffers) and they'll approve the deal.
With the broadcast industry in depression watch this deal to move quickly...with others to follow.
