The Customer Service Hall of Shame
How a company handles adversity can tell you a lot about its character. Does it stick to its guns, keeping the customer first? Or does it stick it to customers, raising prices and cutting service?

9 repeat 'winners'
Four financial-services companies made the top-10 Customer Service Hall of Shame, joined by one online-service provider -- AOL -- two cable companies, two phone companies and one retailer. Nine of the top 10 were repeats from 2008.

AOL, like last year, ranked worst in customer service in the 2009 survey, this time with 44.8% of respondents saying AOL's service was "poor," down from 46.6% a year ago.

2. Comcast
3. Sprint Nextel
4. Capital One
5. Time Warner Cable

10. Citigroup

1. I've not had trouble with Comcast, and don't know anything about the others.

5. Well, I ceased doing business with three of them years ago...

and am celebrating my fourth year, cable-free. I do have Sprint, only because I got a deal that is very cost beneficial currently (but I agree they have lousy customer service). AOL is only a free account, though I had a paid account for many years in the past.

You know if we just banned automated voice and voice mail systems how many jobs we could bring back to do actual customer service?

8. My only problem with Qwest is that they plod through
troubleshooting when I've been able to tell them exactly what is wrong with my DSL modem. The stink of burning plastic and tiny curl of smoke from the case were rather dead giveaways.

Other than that, they've been fine.

11. My favorite discussions with Comcast go along similar lines.
"All the lights are out on the cable modem except for the
power light and the cable TV isn't working either. So why
do you figure rebooting my WiFi-connected Macintosh is
going to fix things?"

14. I had my phone disconnected for late payment because of Qwest's shitty Customer Service.
I thought I had gotten a problem with my on-line bill paying fixed. Nope. :eyes:
