59. Why do you refuse to spell Pelosi's name correctly even aftger being alerted to your misspelling?

When you behave like a Rightist...

- attack Democrats
- exaggerate bad news to make Democrats look bad
- misspell Democratic names, or use stupid sounding nicknames

... people are going to believe you are a Rightist. Your problem is that you spend too much time in your Rightist bubble where misspelling or nicknaming gets hoots of laughter and is viewed as incredibly smart and witty. Outside that bubble you look like an idiot.

Of course, I'm sure you have been told this many times before. But as long as real people laugh at your childishness just to be polite (the second you leave I imagine everyone makes fun of you), you will continue thinking you are amazingly froody.

28. I'm guessing the average American voter who doesn't spend their days on political message boards
The guy who comes home at night, watches 10 minutes of news, doesn't understand or care to understand the minutiae of public policy. You know, most of them. If we don't see some real results for workers or some bold moves that look like our administration 'gets it' about the average guy we will be killed in the next elections.

I hope I'm wrong but Americans are notorious for punishing the party in power when their lives suck.

We can talk about Ohio and other examples of voter fraud - but lets face it, it was close enough to steal and their has been no support to investigate voter irregularities.

So Bush had a 2nd term to "Fuck Up America"

To Bad the Dems are not smart enough or concerned enough to stay in office to undo the many injustices brought on by a RATpubliCON majority in power

20. There are dozens of stimulus projects going on
in this tri-state area, people have even been complaining about the traffic problems they create. The Stimulus was not intended to make (jobs) in the first place, it was to make work to help limit unemployment. The private sector makes jobs, the government spends money. Sure there are bridges to be built but it takes years of engineering, EPA permits and COE permits before any ground is broken on a large bridge project. I know of several smaller bridges in the area that are or have been replaced with the stimulus. There is an Ohio river bridge a few miles from here that is being refurbished with stimulus money.

21. The stimulus money caught the states off guard.
There were many improvement projects put on the back burner by the states as all the Fed money dried up under the Bush regime.

So, estimations and projections weren't being done by the states, as that costs money, and they were only funding projects that were in dire need, or on an emergency basis.

Not too many 'shovel-ready' projects or improvements were past the study stage, as there was no money to fund them anyway. The few you see now were probably on the 'need-to-do' list.

The Fed didn't want the stimulus money being spent willy-nilly, haphazardly, or getting in the pockets of cronies of the various governors, so they demanded accountability from the states for their projects.

They are scrambling to put together good cost estimates and realistic schedules just as fast as they can to present to the federal government

Look to the second quarter for that stimulus money to really hit the states.

Dirt is gonna fly.

I think I'm going to hate "Orange Barrel" season this year.

When there's bad news, they jump all over Obama. When there's good news, they go off the deep end. Just read the posts!

(a) It's not true.

(c) The improvement is all government jobs.
(d) It doesn't matter.

25. Pols here in PA are saying the stimulus is having real, positive effect that's
just beginning to show up. There are enough public works projects and repairs needed here to keep contractors busy for decades - after decades of neglect.

Also showing up in the green areas - the numbers are slowly starting to turn back. Of course it all doesn't happen immediately, but is it starting to make its presence felt - and much of the stimulus is supposed to be released in 2010...I expect the GOPers - and sadly, some Dems - will be whining even more next year, when that election is coming up.....

Seems redundant. But I will try.

We don't know who these wackadoodles are or what their political ideology really is. We could be discussing things of great importance with with a god damned LaRouchey goofball for all we really know. And you know we probably have. We had to.

Got to take everything with a grain of salt around here.

Look around at all the people who act all pissed off about President Obama's Afghan decision. I bet a dollar to a donut most of them supported Bush invading there to begin with. Maybe they are really just pissed off at themselves for getting played like a fool by a drunk cowboy? I don't know?

43. Thanks for the explanation. Sadly, though, I've come to a more chilling conclusion
Part of it has to do with spending too much time on the Energy/Environment Forum.

There I have been blown away at the percentage of people who enthusiastically look forward to the "great die off". There was a post like that today, iirc, in GD.

Unfortunately, a large percentage of DUers are basically nihilists. They want things to be terrible, and hope for some sort of secular rapture in which all the bad people and all the good people who aren't as good as them, die and they are raptured into either Kucinich heaven or socialist workers' paradise.

There used to be a parallel forum to DU that went through a series of purges until there are basically about 5 members left all of whom police each others' ideological purity, and frankly if it were left up to about 20% of DU that's what DU would be also.
