Questions for those favoring Obama's Afghan escalation

Would you be willing to sacrifice yourself for the cause there?
Would you be willing to lose a child or grandchild there?

If the answer is "NO" to either one then you are a god damned hypocrite of the highest order.
You are a hypocrite, and coward because you want others to die in your place.

1. Why 30,000 additional troops?
Why not 40,000? Or why not 20,000? And what's with the 18 month fuse? Is there something we expect to happen in 18 months that can't possibly happen in 12 or 14 months? What factors might cause an extension of that 18 months? Is 21 months too long? Why not? How about 24 months? Is there a scenario where 18 months becomes 18 years? Or is there a deadline beyond which we absolutely will no longer be in Afghanistan? Is that measured in months, years, or decades?

I have beaucoup questions.

2. I got neg votes...wow...

I guess we have pro-war people here at the DU that think it's A-OK for others to carry the burden while they sit on their fat asses and play keyboard warrior.

Personally I hate war and I hate our President for escalating it.
I want all our men and women to come home NOW.

3. The business about eighteen months has to do with the next election.
That would be my guess, at any rate, and I admit that I have a fairly suspicious mind when it comes to politicians.

Edited on Fri Dec-04-09 08:59 PM by G_j
neither has anyone said there would ever be a total withdrawal.
they could bring home one person a day and keep their promise.

13. That's how to keep a promise in a very literal fashion
that does not require any actual effort or sacrifice.

4. Looks like the only non-cowards are the 30,000 troops.
Good thing we have a Government to serve and protect the little cowards. Aye?

7. Yes. Self-defense is generally justified.
Edited on Fri Dec-04-09 09:29 PM by anonymous171
Afghanistan never attacked us. What we are doing is waging a war of aggression, which is bad.

14. And you are?
I had my time in uniform. I'm too long in the tooth to be taken back. No one goes to war certain to die. Nothing is preordained, it just happens.

Would I mind if one of my own serves there? No, why would I? I am the son of a vet, the grandson of vets. I am Apache by heritage and come from untold generations of warriors. I served my country and you try to imply I'm a coward. Try a fucking mirror.

15. I think this is crap.
I think it's cowardly to doubt our president.

You have no idea what a hard decision it was to send more troops to Afghanistan.

Do you think that a president really wants to send the great men and women of this country to die?

I do not.

The proud men and women who serve our country sign up knowing full well that their lives may be given up for this great country.

If you did you would be terrified and disgusted, as I am. Obama is making political calculations with American lives.

Give me some proof to otherwise justify what you are saying.

20. I would risk my life to defend this nation in heart beat
if my niece or nephew volunteered to do the same, I would be proud of them (as well as worried)

So you can take your bullshit accusation of hypocrisy and cowardice and stick them where the sun don't shine!

21. I've GOT skin in the game.
Are you willing to sacrifice yourself for the cause of withdrawal? Are you willing to lose a child or grandchild because of your opinion?

Ever even been arrested for your beliefs? Or are you a keyboard activist?

Hypocrite, indeed. Cue the eye-rolling emoticon. :eyes:
