Guy at the restaurant just told me on his way to Indianapolis there were wind turbines along ...
... Route I-65 as far as the eye could see. Huge ones. Anyone else familiar with this turbine farm or have seen it?

He said it was an amazing sight to see.

I made the same trip last year and didn't see any wind turbines then. Have these been newly constructed?

Thanks in advance for any info on this.

2. Im not familiar with Indiana, is this near the area you describe?
Wind Farm on US Highway 52

A photo of the new Wind Farm in Benton County, Indiana as taken from my car traveling North on US 52 about 20 miles outside of Lafayette.

Thanksgiving dinner is in Fowler, Indiana and the new Wind Farm fills almost every view of the horizon. I understand the farm is now owned by BP and has about two thirds of the planed 600 and some windmills complete.

The wind farm did not quite have the uniformity I had expected but the site was still very impressive.

5. That could be part of it

I am not sure of the scale of this project. But I am going to take a trip to Indy to see some friends I know there soon and check it out for myself. Get to stop at one of the last two Dog 'n Suds(Both are in Lafayette In.) restaurants on the way. About my favorite place to eat. I love the root beer in the iced mugs there. I can taste it right now.

I used to live in Indy. It was a great place to live.

7. There's a huge wind farm in Kansas, beside I-70
It's a beautiful sight as you drive past it.

And it's fascinating to compare those giant turbines to the few relatively tiny old-fashioned windmills on farms nearby.

8. I wrote about seeing this wind farm, too, in another post
We drive that route along I-65 from Chicago to Indpls. frequently, since my parents live in Indy. It was only on our last trip, in October, that I saw the massive wind farm. (In fact, we had to make a detour off the road because traffic was all backed up, so we got to drive right through some of it!) Does it have something to do with Purdue University?

I mentioned before how beautiful I think these wind farms are--graceful, elegant, powerful. I don't understand why so many locals don't want them, at least on purely aesthetic grounds. Of course, I don't have to look at it every day, but I find them inspiring.

No one ever thought Holland was ugly because of its windmills.
